Rosario (Sally Young) Palmieri was killed for that according to testimony that came out in the Vincent Gigante trial.StandUpGuy wrote: ↑Sat Apr 13, 2019 2:17 pm Are there any known cases of made guys being killed for dealing drugs? Basically ”going against the rules”?

Wise men listen and laugh, while fools talk.

Yet, (slightly ironically) Gotti was boss, sooooooo..... that would actually be a yes then?

And look what disaster he brought upon that family. Being a boss doesn't necessarily makes you actual 'boss material', as in being a competent leader. History has shown he was a terrible boss. Not only did he attract attention and had no shame about it, he also taunted the feds and made them all the more eager to bring him and the people around him down. The Gottis never should've been in power let alone being in power for so many years.

True, but he was boss. And the question was whether he was boss material, not if he was good boss material....

Matter of personal preferance of its definition. Being boss and being boss material are two different things in my book, but I do see your perspective.SonnyBlackstein wrote:True, but he was boss. And the question was whether he was boss material, not if he was good boss material.... [emoji6]

I do honestly think people give Gotti and SG too little credit. They did take the leadership (after legitimately achieving not small ranks prior) holding the reigns through either fear or respect or a combination.
People just tend to shit on Gotti or Gravano with a throwaway ‘showboat’ or ‘rat’ as if that defines the LCN story completely.
I think it clearly doesn’t and each deserve a more complex analysis as they did not achieve nothing and did each have many ‘positive’ (for LCN) factors which they contributed.
Gotti romanticized the life and created a whole new generation of young Italians wanting to join said life.
Gravano, was an expert and considerable ‘racketeer’ rather than just a mere criminal. Something which these days, is almost unheard of.
Both seem to have on some level contributed to the ‘health’ of LCN on some level. If not in a net sense then at least not in an only negative sense, as is constantly portrayed.
And to clarify I’m not saying they were good for LCN overall. But they each certainly weren’t one line throwaway negatives either. Is my point.

Re: General Mob Questions
Just my two cents but Sammy was too greedy to be an effective boss and Gotti while not a good boss was not as bad as people make him out to be.

Re: General Mob Questions
Gotti was not a good Boss but he and Giancana were both very similar in a couple ways. They both had the F.B.I. so angry with them that the Feds never gave up trying to put them both away. The Feds finally got Gotti. They hounded Giancana so badly he was basically forced to leave the Country and go abroad. Also, both men had balls bigger than the Empire State building. Boss or no Boss, That murder that Gotti planned against Castellano and Bilotti took a lot of guts and precise execution.

I've always said this about Nicky Scarfo. I am pretty convinced the Philly family wouldn't be around anymore if he hadn't.SonnyBlackstein wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2019 9:47 pm Gotti romanticized the life and created a whole new generation of young Italians wanting to join said life.

Re: General Mob Questions
I always thought it was interesting how both Gotti and Massino ended up. Very different styles of bosses, yet Massino flipped while Gotti didn't. I don't think Gotti ever faced the death penalty, but I still think it's interesting.
