Re: The Philly Piccolos
Anyone got a list of the hits under Bruno? We're up to what, 12 or so that we now know about?
I think one of the most beneficial things resulting from Philip Leonetti coming back out of the woodwork in the past couple of years to promote his book is how he stripped away a lot of the "Gentle Don" bullshit by confirming that Bruno OK'd the series of hits under Scarfo in the 70s, was neck deep in drugs, etc. etc.
Here's a Q&A with the always entertaining Leonetti in which he calls Bruno "the biggest drug dealer in Philadelphia".

Here is a list I put together a while back. I've updated it to include the two hit B. posted.
Dominick “Reds” Caruso/1962 (Body Not Found) - The hit was carried out by Nicky Scarfo, Salvatore Merlino, Santo Idone, Santo Romeo and Anthony Casella. Soldier Anthony “King Kong” Parella was also involved in the hit. Scarfo dumped the body and had then 9 year old Phil Leonetti ride with him so it wouldn’t look suspicious.
William Dugan/1963 – This was the longshoreman who was stabbed to death by Nicky Scarfo. Not Mob Related
FNU LNU/1970 – Killed by Nicholas “Nick the Blade” Virgilio. It was the stepfather of the girl he was dating. Probably not mob related. This was the hit that Judge Edward Helfant screwed him on.
Pasquale “Jimmy Ross” Procopio/1972 - Assocaite
FNU “Chicago Louie” Matteo/1972 - Associate
Joseph “Joey” McGreal/1973 – Associate – Killed by Ralph Natale
Alvin Feldman/1974 – Associate (Body Not Found) – The hit was carried out by Frank “Chickie” Narducci, Santo Idone, Joseph “Chickie” Ciancaglini and Joseph Scalleat.
Edward “Butchie” Snee/1975 – Associate (Body Not Found) – The hit was carried out by Peter “Pete the Crumb” Caprio and Fulvio “Anthony/Tony" Capozzi.
Louis DeMarco/1976 – Associate - The hit was carried out by Philip “Crazy Phil” Leonetti and Vincent Falcone
Guiseppe “Pepe” Leva/1977 – Associate – Killed by Alfredo Ferraro
Michael “Mikey CoCo” Cifelli/1978 – Associate – Killed by Salvatore Merlino and Salvatore “Salvy” Testa.
Edwin Helfant/1978 – Associate- The hit was carried out by Nicholas “Nick the Blade” Virgilio and Nicky Scarfo
FNU LNU/1978 – Killed by Joseph “Joe Crutch” Curro. This was his wife’s boyfriend. Probably not Mob Related.
Vincent Falcone/1979 – Associate – The hit was carried out by Nicky Scarfo, Philip “Crazy Phil” Leonetti, Lawrence “Larry/Yogi” Merlino and Joseph Salerno.

Re: The Philly Piccolos
There was also George Feeney who was clipped by Natale in '70, he testified that he had Bruno's approval.

Nice list Pogo, appreciate the cliff notes also, didn't Leonetti end up marrying Vincent Falcone wife?......SoliaiPogo The Clown wrote:Ivan wrote:Anyone got a list of the hits under Bruno? We're up to what, 12 or so that we now know about?

Another one is the 1969 murder of Teamster Robert DeGeorge. There was a street corner shootout and Joe Ciancaglini is believed to have killed DeGeorge. Ciancaglini himself was hit, too, and was hospitalized. Frank Sheeran was also involved.

Re: The Philly Piccolos
Awesome info Pogo. Also thanks Philly for that extra Natale hit, I had never even heard of that one.
Leonetti helpfully explains the situation starting at about 25:15 in this video.

I think his body actually was found eventually - they dug it up after Caprio flipped in I think the basement of his social club.Pogo The Clown wrote: Edward “Butchie” Snee/1975 – Associate (Body Not Found)
The woman Falcone was dating when Leonetti killed him, yes.Soliai wrote:didn't Leonetti end up marrying Vincent Falcone wife?......Soliai

Damn..I guess if you saw those guys coming around the corner, you knew you were fucked. When was Joe Chang Made, B?
Maybe one of the best threads I've read, guys. Awesome stuff in here.
Re: The Philly Piccolos
Sometime in the mid-to-late 70's most likely. Nothing concrete, but the idea is that he, John Grande, and maybe one or two others were sponsored in around 1977. The last guys made by Bruno.Doobeez wrote:B. wrote:Another one is the 1969 murder of Teamster Robert DeGeorge. I think Caramandi said that Sindone was one of the other ones made at that time.B. wrote: Sometime in the mid-to-late 70's most likely. Nothing concrete, but the idea is that he, John Grande, and maybe one or two others were sponsored in around 1977. The last guys made by Bruno.

I think he was made earlier, actually. He was already proposed in the 60's and was supposed to be in the next batch of guys made, so I'd say he was in by the early 70's. Snuffy Iannarella is another one who was probably made at the same time.Ivan wrote:I think Caramandi said that Sindone was one of the other ones made at that time.B. wrote: Sometime in the mid-to-late 70's most likely. Sindone most likely sponsored Ciancaglini.

Here's the line from Blood and Honor where Caramandi says it - he could be wrong, of course, but this is where I got that. (The way he says it makes it sound like Sindone got made alongside Ciancaglini and Grande, but the Crow might be compressing time here.)B. wrote:I think he was made earlier, actually. Sindone most likely sponsored Ciancaglini.
"For years Angelo Bruno didn't make anybody in Philadelphia. When he got in after the Apalachin meeting, he made a few guys then, maybe ten guys, and that was it. Maybe another twenty years later he made a few more. Ciancaglini, Sindone, and Coo-Coo Johnny, Johnny Grande."

Re: The Philly Piccolos
Yeah, I think he's speaking in generalities or he doesn't know the specifics since he wasn't made then. Bruno didn't become boss until 3 years after Apalachin and he had more than two ceremonies.Ivan wrote:Here's the line from Blood and Honor where Caramandi says it - he could be wrong, of course, but this is where I got that. Bruno had a big ceremony in the early 1960's, then he had a very small one in the mid-60's where Dominick Rugnetta got in. He tried to have another one a couple years after that but Joe Rugnetta and the Calabrians beefed because they were underrepresented so it got postponed.
Some of the guys who would have gotten in during the 70's are Sindone, Iannarella, Ciancaglini, Grande, Costello, and Stanfa (unless he transferred from the Caccamo family).

Re: The Philly Piccolos
I have Frank Sindone as being made in 1969 with his sponsor being Angelo Bruno himself. Snuffy Iannarella was also made in that ceremony with Phil Testa as his sponsor. I believe you discovered this info B.
Thanks for the extra murders guy's. So that is at least 14 sanctioned murders in a 20 year period. So yeah the Gentle Don stuff is crap. Bruno was just as violent as Scarfo though he seemed a bit more selective about who got killed. Looks like Philly has always been the most violent family from the 60s onwards.

Re: The Philly Piccolos
Yeah other families might have more total hits, but if you go by the number of hits relative to the size of the family ("hits per capita" ) Philly might be the worst.Pogo The Clown wrote:Looks like Philly has always been the most violent family from the 60s onwards.
For example, since the late 90s or so Philly and the Genovese family have both had about the same number of hits (about a half-dozen), but the Genovese family is what, 10 times bigger?

Re: The Philly Piccolos
I'm pretty sure they have the most hits total out of any family in the last 20-25 years. I count 9 or 10 murders since 1995 alone. I don't think any other family reaches that.
