The guy running US Concrete until a few months ago was John Tusa. I wonder if he is connected to Anthony and Victor in New Orleans?

It was from season 4 episode 12. It was when Tony was having his little feud with Carmine. Big Vito suggested torching his cement trucks.

It's a new morning in America... fresh, vital. The old cynicism is gone. We have faith in our leaders. We're optimistic as to what becomes of it all. It really boils down to our ability to accept. We don't need pessimism. There are no limits.

Yes and Ferrara does a lot of downtown Manhattan work

You have to think both companies are with someone . Wonder if the Columbos were able to hold on to Ferrara’s

US Concrete moved into NYC in a major way over last 2-3 years. They started with Eastern concrete in Jersey and SI then bought Ferrara Bros, Greco Bros, NYCON, Jenna, ON TIME, Kings, Diamond and I might be forgetting some. They bought everyone out and are now poised to raise prices and lower service.
Real gangster style.

Had no idea ! Sounds and looks like they are consolidating and creating a Cartel . I wonder if the many other companies out there are acting on an independent basis or going to consolidate as well

Great info , Kings I see a lot too . If they are subs of US Concrete I wonder how much mob influence there still is , if any? Jersey and SI very likely still have lots of activity . They also could have only bought a majority stake (51%+) and perhaps still have some activity but then you have to outwit Corp accounting which is no joke today but still doable with inflated invoices to a friendly sub contractor then get a cut on back end :)

That Hilton Cava construction built in Financial District I saw it was Ferrara trucks that did the concrete. In terms of Financial District I saw Ferrara trucks the most and that area is possibly the most lucrative in the US and maybe the world.

There is just so much construction in the metro area and it’s hard to imagine Westside , Luchesse and Gambinos aren’t doing a serious amount of the construction business today. That would be a good question for Mikey Scars about the guesstimate of today’s construction rackets vs late 90s early 2000s.

Thats HUGE for US Concrete to buy up those companies, Have 21 Companies under them from Cali to Pennsylvania to NJ and NY and come right in and start doing business ! Just like when BFI came in and eventually the Waste hauling rackets and schemes were taken down and reduced to nothing . That says alot about the Mob's power and influence in 2019 . Nobody has ever really cane in and challenged the Cement and Construction industry ! I guess that's the pushback right here

The New York families are still very much involved in construction and connected industries like demolition, trucking, etc. That is the area where their presence remains more than any other. We've even seen some cases involving the Bonannos, though more on the company side rather than union.

The difference is simply the scope of control, which has been diminished. Concrete for instance, the LCN once controlled the suppliers, the unions, the companies involved in the "club," everything. It was a case of the entire industry being locked up from top to bottom. Obviously that's changed.

But they're still involved. For example, the concrete business was part of the 2008 Gambino case. And in 2011, after Ralph Scopo and the entire executive board were removed from their position and Local 6A (concrete workers) was put in trusteeship by LIUNA, it was reported in an FBI memo that a representative from the Gambino family had met with a Lucchese captain and soldiers to discuss the Gambino's desire to control the local.
All roads lead to New York.

Good info and that’s actually a good example of things I wish I had more info, who has what

Columbos used to have some of the most lucrative construction / union rackets in the 80s n 90s. Like you mentioned above about the Gambino family moving in on a one time Columbo union and I’m sure the Westside n Gambinos have been making plays on these rackets for some time now

Given how decimated that family has become ( mainly BK / LI now? ) you have to think they have had some success.

NJ never had the crackdown on certain industries like NY did and as a result the Westside managed to build up NJ trucking / port interests that give them ability make shit happen ( That Port shutdown was no Fing joke and cld of shut down east cost commerce ). Not to mention their connections in recycling/ garbage/ weight transfer stations, land fills which can all be tied into construction activities.

I have read here where the Westside BK rackets ( w strong crews/ capts ) appear to have really expanded the last 5-15 years and I wonder if this at the expense of the Columbo’s ?

Yeah, the vast majority of the Colombo's presence is in Brooklyn and Long Island. Easily the most geographically confined of the NY families.

The Genovese did something similar to the Gambinos in the the wake of the Gravano fallout in the 1990s when they took over some of their gambling and construction rackets.

Was there evidence that the mob was involved in that port shutdown or am missing something?

I love when they say a union is being put under "TRUSTEESHIP" . The union locals are still corrupt because they fail to purge all the locals including the District Council ,Which in this case is DC16 . The DC controls and oversees between 30-40 union locals which functions basically the same as a Mafia family .To kill the snake you must cut off the head .

That is actually an assumption on my part but I was told by a bunch of union members it was over hiring practices as the Port Commission was flexing their muscle so the union flexed back.
It’s likely the westside was advised as a port strike there was an aggressive step as you shut down commerce, ships n trucks backed up for miles
