Re: Mario Gigante´s crew affiliation
Is there any evidence that might suggest that Mario Gigante took over the Cockeyed Nick Ratteni crew from Yonker/Westchester?

Re: Mario Gigante´s crew affiliation
I don´t know. Rattenni´s crew was probably disbanded shortly after his death. Mario Gigante is identified as a captain by the FBI on a list dated September 1983. He was also convicted of loansharking that year. He was not identified as a captain by Cafaro in 1988, suggesting he was no longer a captain. In the mid 1970s, he was indicted on charges of participating in a $50 million a year gambling operation in New York City that allegedly took bets on horse races and other sports events. With him were also Alfred Bonfiglio, Dan DiGiacomo and Vito DiSalvo indicted, suggesting these three worked for him. Vito DiSalvo is later identified as being under Buster Ardito. In his loansharking conviction of 1983, a Frank Vodola was also found guilty. Another thing to consider is may be the fact that Rudy Santobello´s social club on Webster Avenue in the Bronx had previously been owned by Mario Gigante. I tend to believe though that Mario was with his brother and that the informer who claimed Mario Gigante was with a "Mulberry Street crew" (see original post) was simply wrong. When he was identified as a captain by the FBI in September 1983, he was so as a captain of his brother´s old crew.
These are the others identified on that list (out of towners not listed; Boiardo, Gatto and Scibelli):
- Jimmy Alo
- Johnny Buonarobo
- Thomas Contaldo
- Pete DeFeo
- redacted
- Louie Gaccione
- Mario Gigante
- Matty Ianniello
- Joe Loiacono
- Tommy Lombardi
- Sammy Santora
Note that the list goes in alphabetic order, so the first letter in the the redacted last name should be a D, E, or F.

I remember reading something like that too. If Cafaro didn't testify against Barney, he wouldn't have to worry about any repercussions against his kid. Or something like that.Cheech wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2016 2:21 pmI am not sureStroccos wrote:didnt cafaro refuse to testify agaisnt barney ?Cheech wrote:As far as Cafaro. Re: Mario Gigante´s crew affiliation
I have to add some of the names of guys indicted with Mario Gigante on gambling charges back in 1975. Joseph Denti (who later became a well known Genovese member), Joseph Garcinella (or possibly Sarcinella), Vincent Landolfi, Diego Asaro, Alexander Noce and David Treccagnoli.HairyKnuckles wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2020 7:21 amI don´t know. I think George Barone testified that Barney told him Fish didn’t fully cooperate with authorities in return for protecting his kid Tom.Cheech wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2016 2:21 pmI am not sureStroccos wrote:didnt cafaro refuse to testify agaisnt barney ?Cheech wrote:As far as Cafaro. Also the Bellomo in that drug bust might have been his cousin and not Barney.

Re: Mario Gigante´s crew affiliation
My opinion (barring any further info that I haven't come across) is that there probably isn't any link, at least no close relation (always possible that they are distant cousins of some sort). Pasquale and Mario Gigante of Chicago were born in Napoli (some sources indicate urban Napoli proper, while some say the close western suburb [at the time largely rural] of Fuorigrotta [where today there is a street called Via Mario Gigante]) to Ciro Gigante and Anna Porzio of Napoli (who at least were married in one of the urban quarters of Napoli). The family arrived via NYC in 1913 and settled in Chicago in the Taylor St neighborhood where several more children including Giuseppe were born bringing the number of siblings to 8. Sister Annunziata "Nancy" of course married Paul De Lucia around 1927. Pat Gigante was named in 1935 for business racketeering in the Macaroni Producers associations (alongside Rocco De Grazio) and both Pat and Joe both wound up becoming members of the mobbed-up local 110 of the Motion Picture Operators Union, with Pat dying in 1968, Mario in 1984, and Giuseppe in 1992.Villain wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2020 11:41 amSame here...i think PolackTony can help us..@Polack you reading this??? The father of the Gigante brothers in New York was of course Salvatore Esposito Vulgo Gigante of Napoli (possibly from Quartiere San Ferdinando?). Going back several generations I don't see any connection between Salvatore and Ciro Gigante of Chicago. I'd also note that I see no indication of the full surname "Esposito Vulgo Gigante" among anyone connected to the Gigantes of Chicago.

Re: Mario Gigante´s crew affiliation
It looks like John Buonarobo took over from Rattenni. Buonarobo may have been Rattenni´s acting skipper already in the early 1970s when Rattenni had legal troubles.
