5 Family Crew Succession

Re: 5 Family Crew Succession
Just some stuff from my notes, some of it going off of Pogo's already made successions.
Baudanza Crew
Joseph 'Joe T' Tomasello (198?-1988) Stepped down
- Joel 'Joe Waverly' Cacace (1988)
Joseph Scopo (1989-1991) Promoted to acting underboss
Joel 'Joe Waverly' Cacace (1991-1993) Promoted to underboss
Joseph Baudanza (1993-Present) Imprisoned in 2006
Piecing together Cacace and Baudanza because Carmine Baudanza (Joseph's brother) was described as a Cacace crew member by Gang Land News. Joseph promised brother Carmine for induction.
Piecing together Scopo and Baudanza because Kenny Gallo described Baudanza as taking over from Joseph Scopo, as well as the fact that Joseph Baudanza was described by Larry Mazza as Scopo's right-hand-man.
Lombardo Crew
This crew was formed in 1991 with members of Thomas Petrizzo's crew.
Nicholas 'Nicky Black' Grancio (1991-1992) Murdered
Ralph Lombardo (199?-2004) Imprisoned/demoted in 2004
- Ralph Piccirillo (1999-2001) Died
- Luca Dimatteo (2001-2003) Imprisoned
Dino Calabro (2004?-2008) Imprisoned
Ralph Lombardo (2008-Present)
- Luca DiMatteo (2008-2015) Imprisoned
Piecing together Grancio and Lombardo because Lombardo's acting capo Ralph Piccirillo was described as a "close friend" of Nicky Grancio and a member of his crew in the Scarpa files.
Also, we know that Dino Calabro was placed into Lombardo's crew when he was inducted in order to get close to him and whack him, and Calabro was elevated to capo around the time of Lombardo's imprisonment. But, Calabro couldn't have been the capo of the Gioeli crew since Paul Bevacqua was the acting capo of that crew.
Putting Lombardo as promoted back to capo in 2008 because that's when his supervised release ended.
Gioeli Crew
I'm going off what you've already got, Pogo, with a couple of possible additions given what we now know.
Andrew “Andy/Mush” Russo (1977-1988) Imprisoned.
- Joseph “JoJo” Russo (198-1988) Became Official Capo.
Joseph “JoJo” Russo (1988-1993) Imprisoned in 1993.
In 1991, Victor 'Little Vic' Orena promoted Miciotta Acting Capo over a part of the Russo Crew that was loyal to him. It was disbanded when Miciotta and his crew were imprisoned.
-Salvatore "Big Sal" Miciotta (1991-1993) Imprisoned.
Thomas 'Tommy Bop/Shots' Gioeli (1993-1999) Promoted to acting underboss in 1999, acting boss in 2003.
- Paul 'Paulie Guns' Bevacqua (1999-2011) Exposed as informer
Andrew Russo was promoted to capo over part of this crew following his 2008 release from prison.
Russo Crew
Andrew 'Andy Mush' Russo(?) (2008-2009) Promoted to acting boss
Joseph 'Junior Lollipops' Carna (2010-2011) Imprisoned
William 'Billy' Russo (2011-Present)
Gang Land News called Russo a capo in October 2011, but I don't believe he was a capo before then given that he wasn't at any of the 2010 captain's meetings.
Baudanza Crew
Joseph 'Joe T' Tomasello (198?-1988) Stepped down

Joseph Scopo (1989-1991) Promoted to acting underboss

Great stuff. Thanks. Not to nitpick but Gioeli was promoted in 1994.

Fair point, I didn’t realise it was given an official date. Did that come out at trial?Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Wed Apr 24, 2019 5:21 pm Great stuff. Thanks. Not to nitpick but Gioeli was promoted in 1994.

JD mentioned it in his recent write up of Gioeli.

Re: 5 Family Crew Succession
In November of 2011, the Colombo family's Florida Crew and the Gioeli/Carna crew were broken up. The members of the Florida crew went back to their original regimes that they were in prior to the crew's creation in 2008, with the exception of Reynold Maragni, who reported directly to acting consigliere Thomas Farese.
Two members of the Gioeli/Carna regime - Vincent Manzo Sr. and "Richie Cap" (most likely a reference to Richard 'the Jeweler' Capichano) - were moved into the crew of Luca DiMatteo in that month. DiMatteo explicitly mentioned that he was the eyes and ears for "Ralphie Lombardi."
Maragni to Manzo on Nov. 18, 2011;
Um, Wednesday, at, um, 1:00, you meet me on the 69th Street pier. You’re gonna meet Lukie. You remember Luca. Luca is the acting skipper for Ralphie Lombardi. I’m gonna put you over there and Richie Cap too. Stepped down. Breaking up that, probably gonna break up that thing down in Florida. [UI] I’ll see you once a week anyway. I’ll see you, you know, I’ll see you once a week as always because now I’m worried about you.
Four days prior to that meeting, Thomas Farese traveled up to Florida and met with captain Joseph 'Junior Lollipops' Carna, at the time awaiting sentencing for money laundering, as well as acting capos Salvatore Castagno and Luca DiMatteo. This may have been in relation to Carna's crew members being moved to DiMatteo's crew.
Maragni Testimony in Gioeli Trial;
GEDDES; Following your meeting on November 18 2011, did you set up another meeting with Vincent Manzo, Sr.?
MARAGNI; Yes.
GEDDES; For when?
MARAGNI; I believe it was the day before Thanksgiving.
GEDDES; What was the purpose of that meeting?
MARAGNI; I was to introduce Vincent Manzo to Luca DiMatteo.
GEDDES; What position did you hold at that point in the Colombo Family?
MARAGNI; I was -- at that point, I was a soldier.
GEDDES; You previously testified that you had been a captain?
MARAGNI; Yes.
GEDDES; How did you become a soldier after you were previously a captain?
MARAGNI; I was relieved of that position because they claimed they were going to break up my regime and all the guys that were in my regime were going to go back to their original respective captains.

Genoroso Crew:
Vincenzo Genoroso (1960s-1970s)
-Michele "Micky Dimino" Generoso (1960s-1970s) Became Official Capo.
Michele "Micky Dimino" Generoso (1970s-Late 1990s) Stepped Down.
-Charles “Chucky” Tuzzo (Late 1980s)

-Anthony "Tough Tony/Tony Parkside" Federici (1991-????) Became Official Capo.

Re: 5 Family Crew Succession
According to Joseph Competiello, Pasquale Catalano and Joel Cacace are of the same crew - the East Third Clique. This means that Catalano was the capo while Joel Cacace was underboss/consigliere. I believe Benjamin Castellazzo may be a member of this crew too since Competiello referred to Jimmy O'Toole (Spitalere) as being a member of this crew and Spitalere, according to JD, was a member of Castellazzo's crew in 2000. We also know from Gang Land News that Castellazzo and Cacace were close friends from way back.
This also means the crew is separate from the Scopo Crew.
This makes the crew succession look something like this:
Joel 'Joe Waverly' Cacace (198?-1993) Promoted to Acting Underboss
Benjamin 'the Claw' Castellazzo (1993-1994) Imprisoned
Pasquale 'Fat Patty' Catalano (1994-1999) Died
Benjamin 'the Claw' Castellazzo (1999-Present?) Promoted to Acting Underboss in 2008/9
- Salvatore 'Sally Boy' Castagno (2009-Present)
Castagno, I have discovered, was a member of Castellazzo's crew. He was charged with illegal gambling in the Castellazzo crew bust in 2000, and then helped Castellazzo collect a debt of some kind in 2009. It only makes sense that Castagno's title as "acting capo" came due to Castellazzo's promotion to acting underboss.

Re: 5 Family Crew Succession
Found some new information on what happened to the Cutolo/DeRoss crew. Joseph Campanella was supposed to be acting captain if something were to happen to DeRoss, but instead Joseph Baudanza was promoted to acting captain for DeRoss' crew. Baudanza was, however, a captain in 1998, so he may have been a captain of his own crew as well as taking over the Cutolo crew in an acting capacity. Campanella further testified that at the time of his arrest, he reported to Baudanza.
This could mean that the Amato and Baudanza crews are one and the same, since it seems that the Joey Amato crew was taken over by the Cutolo crew in 1993, and Amato is now a captain again decades later, with the same crew members as before.

Re: 5 Family Crew Succession
Anthony Stropoli was the acting captain for Theodore Persico Jr. when Anthony Russo was inducted. He was replaced by Anthony Russo due to a decision by Andrew Russo. When asked why Persico Jr., when he was not in prison, needed an acting captain, Anthony Russo testified; "Because they wanted to keep him safe."

No worries, makes me wonder what Stropoli’s rank is today given that he was one of the only guys in that crew to escape prosecution.Pogo The Clown wrote: ↑Fri Jun 14, 2019 5:16 am
