Here is the government’s response to Bongiovanni’s motion to severe his case from Gerace’s. One reason Bongiovanni asked for severance is so Gerace could testify as to their relationship - Gerace indicated he wouldn’t testify and would take the 5th if cases stayed joined. On pages 20 and 21 the Government provides 2 redacted pictures: one from Las Vegas in 2011 that shows the two at Cirque Du Soiled with 6 others and another picture of the two at a cottage with 12 other people in 2018. The government argues in their opposition that there will be no shortage of people Bongiovanni can call to testify and/or cross examine as to their relationship. In October 2022 there were arrests by HSI and the Monroe County Sheriff related to a fencing and money laundering operation in Rochester being run Anthony Camacho. See: https://www.monroecounty.gov/files/sher ... ration.pdf

A little sleuthing revealed he had had a New Mexico phone number. This is interesting because a Jason “Jay” Camacho was involved in a debt collection company in New Mexico with Ronald Serio who the Buffalo News indicates has been interrogated by LE in connection to their ongoing investigation into Italian Organized Crime in WNY.

More on the Buffalo Montanas:

John Montana's brother was a Giuseppe "Joe" Montana (d. 1958), who was older and settled in WNY in the 1910s. Joe has never been confirmed as a member that I know of, but I suspect he may have been one. His brother John was a prominent mafioso, his mafioso son Charles married Stefano Magaddino's daughter, and his own daughter married Magaddino's mafioso son Peter.

When John Montana died, they held a private funeral in his home that had to be extended to accommodate mourners traveling from around the US, Canada, and Palermo. Given the privacy of the event and that mourners came over a period of time, it unfortunately doesn't seem we'll ever see a list of who attended.

When John Montana traveled to Sicily in the 1930s, the manifest lists the cargo he brought with him: an automobile.
Up into the early 80's Charles J. Montana was surveilled at a meeting with Todaro and members/associates of the Bufalino family likely in connection with Todaro's desire to be in the vending machine business.

Image

Additionally, Charles is alleged to be a close associate of Joe Todaro, Sr.

Image

Charles J Montana is the Son of Angelo Montano who was one of John Charles Montana's brothers.

Image

In an interview with the FBI Charles tells agents that he is the nephew of Russel Bufalino by marriage.

Image

Charles J Montana was married to Angeline Sciandra.

Image

Also interesting that Angeline's mother is a Vaccaro.

Alleged Gangster’s Oakville Paradise — Hitmen and Murderous Carnage
https://www.insidehalton.com/opinion-st ... s-carnage/

Excerpt:

While [Sukhvir] Deo was awaiting disposition on charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking — stemming from cocaine originally seized on the VIA train headed to Montreal — police believed it was Deo who mobsters were discussing “on the wires” in another Milton-based RCMP investigation, dubbed Project Otremens.

This RCMP project involved a mobster [Vincenzo Morena] from New York’s Bonanno crime family who had been cultivated and paid by Canadian authorities to wear a hidden wire as a “police agent” to record his friends in the underworld — namely members from a crime family in Hamilton — aptly referred to as the Violi-Luppino crime family.

During one particular underworld conversation, being surreptitiously recorded by the mobster-turned-police-agent, a reputed criminal is heard discussing some hypothetical methods on how to forcefully collect a half-million dollar debt he was owed from a male described as a South Asian guy who moved to Ontario from B.C., confirmed John Mans, a retired staff sergeant in Halton’s intelligence unit.

The personal descriptors of the male, right down to the types of vehicles he drove, led investigators to believe the recorded conversation had been about Sukhvir Deo — even though his name was never uttered.

“Investigators had credible information that a known beef was brewing in the underworld,” said Omar Nadim, a retired Halton drug and intelligence sergeant. “Deo was a big target and people wanted him dead.”

Sukhvir Deo’s murder is still a cold case. When he was in British Columbia, he was a member of the Independent Soldiers gang — and he still was a member upon moving to Ontario, where he started to collaborate more and more with the Wolfpack. The excerpt farther below that is from Peter Edwards and Luis Nájera’s book provides one immediate theory as to why Deo was killed, but there is more than one theory. Deo’s two killers were dressed in construction vests, which is reminiscent of the garb worn by the shooter in the murder of Johnny Raposo at the Sicilian Sidewalk Café in Toronto in 2012, but the murders are different because Deo was a Wolfpack ally, whereas Raposo’s murder was plotted by Wolfpack member Rabih Alkhalil, Wolfpack “associate” Nick Nero, and a possibly already made Martino Caputo — why were the latter three intent on killing a Wolfpack ally like Raposo other than for naked greed? We also might need to look at the Greater Toronto Area murders of John Ignani, Anastasio Leventis, and Cosimo Ernesto Commisso to understand motives for Deo’s murder, given at least one common denominator: ties to and dealings with the Wolfpack.

Since moving east, Deo had gotten heavily involved with the Wolfpack Alliance and its drug trafficking efforts. He quickly managed to aggravate well-connected Hamilton mobsters, who thought he was elbowing into their drug turf. Deo was arrested in March 2014 in a joint RCMP–Halton Regional Police operation called Project OCanuck. They’d collared him as part of an unidentified group accused of importing large amounts of cocaine. While awaiting trial, Deo had gone into hiding, floating from rental condo to rental condo across the GTA. He would have to surface eventually, because he was due for court early 2017 in the Toronto suburb of Brampton on charges of drug trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

Long before he was scheduled to appear in court—and only weeks after he’d appeared on TV as a belligerent Raptors fan—Deo stopped his white Range Rover in a wide alley called Cowbell Lane near the busy uptown Toronto corner of Yonge Street and Eglinton Avenue. It was mid-afternoon, Tuesday, June 7. He appeared to be waiting for someone when two men wearing construction vests—one green and one orange—approached his vehicle. The hit had the splashy feel of a made-for-social-media event as they fired at least fourteen shots through the driver’s side window. Their motive wasn’t robbery: rather than steal the pricey Range Rover, the killers fled in a modest black Honda Civic that, according to witnesses, looked more than a decade old.

There were immediate questions about whether Deo’s enemies from British Columbia had finally caught up with him. Deo’s reputation with Vancouver police went back fifteen years, to when he was a neighbour of gangster Bhupinder “Bindy” Singh Johal in the New Westminster neighbourhood of Queensborough. Deo’s criminal record in British Columbia included convictions for resisting a police officer, driving while suspended and assault.

His older brother Harjit Singh Deo was also firmly in the Independent Soldier–Wolfpack camp….

My reading of the particular passages I quoted from the book is that the co-authors were not leaning toward one theory being stronger than the other as to who ordered the shooting and fired the shots. That fourth and last article by Stephen Metelsky mentions details that were not in the book, and what should be apparent to readers of both the book and Metelsky's articles -- not just the recent series of articles -- is that he and Edwards have regularly exchanged information over the years.

The last article by Metelsky appears to suggest that a Hamilton-connected criminal who was recorded by police agent Vincenzo Morena might be a suspect in the plotting of Deo's still unsolved murder. I think it only a matter of time before it is solved -- stay tuned.

I believe DEA Agent Joe Bongiovanni's Dad Frederick passed on Friday. Here is the link to his obituary: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/bu ... d=47592037

According to court papers Fredrick ran a clam stand outside La Nova Pizzeria. His obituary indicates he loved horse racing and spending time at the OTB in his younger days.

...On another note: I haven't been able to determine a familial relationship with Fred or the DEA agent but their was a Frank R. Bongiovanni that was a acquitted of loansharking and extortion charge along with his defendant Benjamin "Sonny" Nicoletti Jr. ...Frank's wife was Josephine Scibetta. See his obituary: https://buffalonews.com/news/frank-bong ... 6d92c.html. I think it is interesting that his wife served as "President of the United Steel Workers of America #15071 for more than 15 years, and she had the honor of becoming the first woman to hold this position." See her obituary here: https://www.mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com/ ... ongiovanni

Here are a couple clippings from The Buffalo News about Frank and Sonny's loansharking trial.

Finally, does anyone have information on Frank Bongiovanni who resided in the Dunkirk, Angola areas of the Southern Tier? I've heard he was an associate of Sam Frangiamore.
