I was wondering who was Steve Rondelli.
Wikipedia lists him as being the Lucchese family’s consigliere from 1931-53.
Similarly, he appears on the List of past Lucchese crime family mobsters. It says: “ Stefano "Steve" Rondelli was an early member of Tom Reina's family in the Bronx.[...] Gagliano to become boss of the family and promote his allies Tommy Lucchese to underboss and Rondelli to consigliere.”
————————————
Both of these source Joe Bonanno’s autobiography. Here’s what it says:
- The Bronx, however, was the domain of the third Family, that headed by Tom Reina. In this Family were such men as Gaetano Gagliano, Tommy Lucchese and Steve Rondelli. [P.84]
- Gagliano's group attracted Tommy Lucchese, Steve Rondelli, John DiCaro and others. [P.106]
- After Pinzolo's death, the leading members in that Family were Gagliano, Lucchese and Rondelli. [P.116]
————————————
I was wondering if his name got confused with some other Steve in the family like Steve LaSalle or Steve Rannelli. But it’s hard to mix up LaSalle with Rondelli. For the latter, despite the very similar name, Rannelli was a shooter with Valachi and didn’t seem very high up.
Does anyone know anything about this Steve Rondelli? If he wasn’t the Lucchese consigliere, who held the position from 1931-53?
