"In 1937 Gambino was sentenced to 22 months in the Federal penitentiary at Lewisburg, Pa., after his conviction in Philadelphia for alcohol tax evasion. Three years later, he got 30 days in a Federal case in Brooklyn for operation of an illegal still."

I haven't read much about the case against Gambino for being involved in an armed robbery, but it strikes me as pretty weak. No doubt he would have been targeted and convicted in the 1980s if he had lived that long, but it's not a given that he would get 100 years. He was such a pivotal figure that the whole era could have played out differently.

This is a very hypothetical question that depends how long he ended up living/being the boss for. If he lived until 1985, he would’ve been indicted during the Commission case or something else, Castellano got indicted for the Demeo crew auto theft case as the boss.

Obviously Chin was boss and wasn’t indicted during the Commission case, but the underboss and boss of the Gambinos were so I feel that if he made it that long, he would’ve also been indicted. Of course, the direction of the Gambino family between 1976-1985 would not have played out the way it did if Gambino lived and remained as the boss. It’s a question that has no correct answer.

Part of gambinos legacy is that he never went to prison

Recently read he went for two years for the food ration stamps or whatever that was
