Hi everyone - So I've read about how Sicily has two mafia groups - Cosa Nostra & Stidda. Cosa Nostra has always been the more powerful of them and in the 80s, the Stidda sprung up in Agrigento, Caltanisetta & Ragusa.
After a long conflict, the two groups seem to be in some amicable peace. My main question though, is, do we know the origins of Cosa Nostra in Ragusa & Siracusa?
Ragusa
From what I have read from the DIA, all Mafia activities revolve around three towns - Vittoria, Comiso & Acate. There are two groups operating in that region.
1. Carbonaro-Dominante clan - A stidda organization which seems to be the dominant force in Ragusa at the moment if I am translatting the DIA reports correctly.
2. Piscopo clan - Apparently a Cosa Nostra group, but does not seem to be very strong.
Were the Carbonaro-Dominante group ever affiliated with Cosa Nostra and then switched sides? Are they an extension of the Stidda in Gela?
Does anyone know how Piscopo came to be and who they are mostly affiliated with? I know in Messina, you have extensions of Palermo mandamenti operating there so I don't know if Piscopo would be a similar case.
Side note: A new book seems to have been published on the Stidda, but I can't read it since I don't now Italian.

Siracusa
The landscape in this region seems to be very different. I believe there is some influence from the Santapaola-Ercolano family of Catania stretching into Siracusa in the same way as done in Messina and Enna.
However, I see a handful of groups listed in the reports.
1. Lentini cosca - Seems to be an organization native to the town which is in the northern part of the province.
2. Nardo group - Also active in various towns of northern Siracusa.
3. Santa Panagia group, Aparo-Trigila group, Bottaro-Attanasio group, Linguanti group - All are active in the city of Siracusa.
4. Caminanti group - Exclusive to the town of Noto (great food there btw)
Are these organizations officially part of Cosa Nostra or are they independent forms of other Sicilian mafia-like organizations? There is definitely not as clearly defined borders in eastern Sicily as there is in the west.
Thanks all for any input you may have.
