Quesions about 2 New York cases

Two questions:

1) In the book "Public enemy almanac" by William Helmer and Rick Mattix in the gangster chronology on february 20 in 1928 there is a mention of a case in New York:
- New York murder of William Doll leads to discovery of an international ring of safecrackers and diamond smugglers.
Does anyone know the specifics of the investigation? I only found one mention of this here:
https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/57578669/
where it's said someone named Isaac Behrman was arrested in March for this murder, but I found no further articles about this, who exactly was this Behrman, why he killed Doll and what "international ring" did he belong to. No books talk about this either (at least the ones I have and the ones that have preview options on google books).

2) Have been reading about anti-racketeering investigations in New York in the 20s and 40s lately, and in some books there was a mention about the indictment of a gang specialized in extortion from taxi drivers from 1933 to 1938. I tried to find more specific details, but found only this article
http://archives.chicagotribune.com/1938 ... cab-racket
which says the racket was headed by a former burglar John Firone, who went on the lam, while union bosses Samuel Smith and Joseph Troue were arrested.

Anyone knows how did the story end? Was Firone ever caught and how did the proceedings against others end?
