Yeah how the Genovese consolidated their power structure in the early 2000's is fascinating, largely because there is so little information on it.

You mean the panel back in the early 2000's? I found that the most interesting too. Not only that Cirillo, Leo, and Muscarella were on it at one point but that Nigro succeeded Muscarella when he went to prison. Also that DeLuca took over another crew separate from the Muscarella/Nigro crew. I had thought DeLuca was in the same crew. It brings up the question again of him taking over Leo's crew? I used to wonder if Leo had taken over the Ardito crew but, if Leo was already on the panel on the early 2000's, and Ardito was indicted as a captain in 2006, that may not be the case.

Scott wrote a good summary on the articles http://gangsterreport.com/new-court-fil ... y-to-them/

I enjoyed this series because it was interesting to hear new info about the Genovese panel, the most interesting topic of discussion when talking about contemporary LCN in my opinion.

Seems like Santaniello turned informant because everybody in Springfield was trying to get a piece of him.
That was a good article. Seems like Santaniello was being hit from all sides.

According to the FBI, he wasnt...

Because Nigro was a captain when Muscarella was on the ruling panel, and the report says DeLuca was a captain of another crew around that same time, I wonder if he was running Danny Leo's crew since Leo was also on the panel at that time.

He was from the Bellomo crew so more then likely he was Acting Boss for a short period or at the very least on a ruling panel with other capo's. Hard to really find the real truth with the Genovese Family. Seem to be much more secretive then the other family. Unlike the other families who utilize a guy in prison for life as the "official Boss" and have a guy or panel on the outside running the family. The Genovese Family lost their Official Boss when Chin died. As far as LE and public knows they have no official Boss since Chin. Could they have an Official Boss that uses a Panel or a guy for a front...maybe? who knows.? I wonder if they will get a new trial? I doubt it. Also if they get a new trial and actually go to trial they will be convicted again due to the informants in this case. The super star informant for the murders is Anthony aka Bingy.. Not Bologna.

Nigro is, of course, from the Bellomo/Muscarella crew. As has pointed out before, it seems like that crew is the basically the one that runs the family. At least most of the acting bosses since Fat Tony and Barney have come from that crew, including Serpico, Muscarella, and Nigro. Being a member of that crew seems to be the quickest way to the top. To make no mistake, the report says Nigro succeeded Muscarella who was acting boss and on the ruling committee.

What's interesting is it says Nigro and DeLuca were captains of different crews. I always thought they were in the same one. The report also says Muscarella had been on the ruling committee with Danny Leo and Dom Cirillo.
Another part says at one point Ardito was put in charge of Connecticut and Massachusetts by the family.

Was Nigro really acting boss of the Genovese's or was he an acting boss, like a capo? I don't get how an acting boss of the most powerful U.S. crime family can have so few layers of insulation between him and this Springfield crew.

Two of the eight convicted defendants – former West Springfield mob enforcer Fotios "Freddy" Geas, and onetime acting Genovese Mafia boss Arthur "Artie" Nigro, of Bronx, NY, – have filed fresh motions asking a judge in U.S. District Court in Manhattan to vacate their life sentences. Among the court filings related to those appeals, new details about government witnesses have emerged, including New York's John Bologna and local strip club magnate James Santaniello. Also, retired FBI Agent Clifford Hedges, was prompted to speak out about his controversial report on Bruno that has been billed as the final trigger that sent the Bruno murder conspiracy in motion.
