I've had almost a life-long interest in LCN and have read just about every book out there, but I never got around to actually reading Murder Machine up until a year or two ago. For some reason I skeeved the whole DeMeo crew and their saga and just wanted to stay away.
As far as I know, there are details on a majority of the crews murders, found between book itself and the comprehensive list on the LCNBIOS link that Pogo posted (thanks Pogo and thanks to the author of that site) .
I can never decide which one is the worst. It's either that poor door-to-door vacuum sales kid who had the misfortune of parking on DeMeo's street -OR- the young boxer from Brooklyn that they spent a lot of time and energy hunting down for petty reasons. The Andrei Katz murder was disgustingly horrible as well, but with that one (not saying it's justified), Katz was actually in the mix and shot at one of the crew members. Some of the others were for really petty or emotional reasons at best, or were just outright mistakes at worst.
Everyone talks about how sick and psychopathic DeMeo and the crew of kids he had around him were, and that's true, but Gaggi was also a really demented, sick fuck. It's expected for someone like Gaggi to be ruthless, especially back in those days, but he was a sensitive fuck who seemed to act on emotion/ego/jealousy a lot, and a lot of people died because of it. My favorite Gaggi story is when he threw I believe his sister's husband out of the house for good and cut him off of the family, because he wouldn't take part in a fake-crash car insurance scheme. I could be wrong but I think that was actually Montiglio's father who got thrown out.
