With the Outfit, the recently jailed Bosses are simply out of it. Joey Lombardo, Jimmy Marcello and fat Mike Sarno don't really have any power over anybody. The only thing I can remember was that about 18 years ago, Nick Calabrese's wife was receiving $4,000 a month from Marcello to keep quiet but he ratted out everybody anyway for other reasons. As far as Lombardo, he had to resort to writing a fucking letter to the Judge to try and help him get another Lawyer. Don't think many messages are being passed to anyone from him. Pathetic so say the least.

Different crime families handle prison differently. Off the top of my head, there's evidence that the Genovese family contribute to imprisoned mobsters' legal funds. The Bonannos also have people in charge of directing tribute to imprisoned mobsters. This was Anthony Seccafico's job, and he was allegedly murdered for (among other things) disrespecting the family of imprisoned Bonanno soldier John Spirito Sr. and messing around with money owed to his family. Nobody has been brought to trial in that case.
I haven't seen evidence that the Colombos pass around tribute to imprisoned mobsters unless, of course, those mobsters are Persicos. In Dino Saracino's case, mobsters had free reign to vulture his rackets against his wishes, as evidenced by court records. This could be why the Colombos have so many rats.

They are still able to receive and pass along messages. Not really that hard for inmate to cummincate with the outside world. In the case of the Colombo it appears that it is his son Little Allie Boy who is passing the orders from prison.

How do jailed mob bosses like Persico and Amuso still maintain control on the streets after all these years? Prisons are highly secured so I would assume that it's very difficult to impossible to relay messages. And does the money get kicked up to the bosses immediate family ie wife, kids etc?
