At least in some cases, yes. It would be interesting to see who all the subcontractors are on the project. Tishman Construction is one of the main contractors on the project and they have used mob-connected subs in the past.
How many instances are you referring to? Is it just the one? Or was that Turner?
Either way more than likely these monster companies have no idea they are using a mobbed up sub on one or two trades when there are 100 or more other subs and trades on the job
A lot of times these large GC companies don't. Tishman was a high rise builder in Manhattan for decades and couldn't help but rub up against the mob in some form or another. Anyway, the company that was discussed recently in another thread was Turner. One of the mob companies Tishman used was Laquila Construction which has ties to the Gambinos and Colombos.
Yeah that is my point. These people are doing 500 million and billion dollar projects. They are not looking into a sub over a few million. I am personally in this industry as a small sub and have worked with both companies. Trust me, they have no clue.
Though it should be noted that some of these large firms wouldn't/don't care even if they were aware. And the firms have issues themselves. Last October Turner had their offices raided as part of an investigation into overbilling. And back in 2015, Tishman paid a $20 million fine for overbilling over a decade.
Oh, and I would add that another mob subcontractor Tishman used was Thomas Petrizzo's company AJ Ross Logistics.

I wonder if the mob still gets a piece of these huge construction projects in Manhattan, like they did in the 70's and 80's. The massive Hudson Yards redevelopment program currently being build on the West Side of Manhattan for example, costs at least $20 billion dollars to build..
What do you guys think?
