is the colombos still on LI?
and ik the Lukes were before w Ducks Corallo.
Id assume every Fam has members in LI, but anyone know about actual crews?
Bonannos have a crew on L.I. led by Sciremammano, as mentioned before. I'd say it's a pretty sizable crew, but I don't know for sure. He had bookmaking in Island Park especially, a $10 million sports betting operation that used wire rooms in Costa Rica. This was run out of his former club, the Skybox Lounge, where the money changed hands and where there were also Joker Poker machines.
Colombos have a few crews on L.I. Their primary operations seem to be in Brooklyn and L.I. John Franzese can be credited with forming a large part of the Colombo's power on the island. Most recent word on that is that his nephew, Michael Catapano, and Michael Uvino, run his old crew. Uvino had high-stakes card games in Hauppage and Lindenhurst and Michael Catapano in North Babylon and Farmingdale. Then there's the Ralph Lombardo wing, which I think does pretty well for a Colombo crew. Lombardo was a very low-key gangster who maintained a huge bookmaking ring in Babylon, Bellmore, etc., as well as Queens and Brooklyn. He was so adept at dodging L.E. that in the late 90s, Little Allie Boy Persico wanted him whacked because he was convinced Lombardo was dropping information on the feds.
Didn't know Gambinos had a crew there till now.
I don't think the Genoveses have much presence there. There are no capos that operate solely or primarily on the island that I know of.
As for the Lukes, I don't know.
Gohn, up until about 1970, Lombardo had no known record. But from there on out, he fell a few times and served significant time. Ralphie must have over 15+ years in the can I’d say.... so believe me although I’ve heard people say before that he “dodges“ LE, he really hasn’t. He fell on the stock fraud case with Aloi, Tramunti. Think he got 5 or 9 yrs on that if I’m not mistaken. He fell previously for shylocking where he served a bit, another couple of years I’m sure..... he fell again during the early 2000’s I think on his latest gambling/usury ring bust where he served another bit.... so it adds up believe me. (And that’s what I remember, he may have fallen another time too)...... and I remember him making parole in the mid-late 80’s for another beef I don’t know what for. So that’s 3-4 times that I can document that he’s served jail time
Following his 1970s stock fraud conviction, Lombardo was inducted, promoted to capo, and then took quasi-administrative role without any significant FBI scrutiny. Lombardo seems to have been promoted to capo during the Colombo war, and even though some of his crew members and close associates went down (close friend Vincent Cascio, and many other Queens/L.I. members related to the Orena crew), Lombardo came off unscathed.
Then, Lombardo took a quasi-administrative role in 1996, getting close to Alphonse Persico. Lombardo, again, has seemingly little heat on him while Allie Boy was embroiled with legal troubles from the moment he came to New York and took over from Russo.
Then, Queens-based capo Pasquale Catalano and soldier Sal Cambria were indicted. I don’t know how close they were to Lombardo, but circumstances indicate they probably had some sort of connection. I don’t know if this fuelled Persico’s suspicions that Lombardo was an informer, but Persico was found with legal papers relating to Catalano’s case when his property was raided in ‘99. He was subsequently arrested for loansharking due to loansharking records found on his property and, from behind bars, ordered the murder on Lombardo, who was promoted to acting consigliere.
