Does anybody know if Tuzio was a captain at one point? Has that been confirmed? Seems to be the general understanding that he was a captain. Where does that come from?
Tuzio has been identified as a member of Frasca´s crew. And Frasca used his "Villa 66", located at 6600 (or 6602) 14th Avenue, Brooklyn as his hangout during most of the early 1970s. If Tuzio was a captain at one point, and I think he was I have no reason to doubt it, he must have been an acting skipper for Frasca who since around 1964 was in semi retirement. Before Tuzio, Larry Piasni and later Tony "Hickey" DiLorenzo acted in this same role.
Great Info HK. What happend to that Genovese crew? Plus jimmy's brother Joe Ida had a club over there somewhere close, could it be they were with Frasca at first. I have found those two james and joe in the 1940 census, they were from Brooklyn not the city
I´m still waiting for some info to come in. Right now though, I can´t answer that question but it looks like Frasca´s crew was merged with other crews/disbanded sometime after him stepping down in mid/late 1970s. One crew member, Crazy Tommy Contaldo took over Toddo Marino´s crew it looks like, while others like Hickey DiLorenzo, ended up (it looks like) under Ianniello later on.

Dutchie Tuzzio was a Colombo? Thanks.
Tuzzio or Tuzzo was a Genovese member.

Non made associate. Probably Colombo Family. Dominick Carlucci.
That's what I thought, that Tuzzo was a Gen guy, and as I recall he is the one thst saved Pappa's life letting him come over to the west side. Did you ever read about that HK?
Not that I can recall. But I like to add that an informant, in or around 1967, identified Tuzio (correct spelling of name; not Tuzzo) as being under Frasca. Little off topic...does anybody know if Tuzio was a captain at one point? Has that been confirmed? Seems to be the general understanding that he was a captain. Where does that come from?

Dutchie was on record with the Colombo Family from way back. His VIlla 66 was a main meeting point of Genovese and Colombo wiseguys. It's possible he could have been transferred over to the Genovese in the mid 70s, but I have no credible sources to ever state he did. Until then I will rely on my sources which are the unredacted Scarpa files that Angela Clemente personally sent to me via EMail.

This might clear up some things.
The restaurant, sources say, was not-so-secretly owned by Frank (Funzuola) Tieri. The powerful gangster was furious that the bloody murder drew extra attention to him as he awaited trial on a racketeering indictment that charged him with being the head of the Genovese clan.

Ironically, Tieri, who would be found guilty of being a Mafia boss that September, had urged official family boss Gigante to order Pappa’s rubout for his numerous violations of mob rules.

Not too smart of Tieri to whack this guy in his own restaurant or maybe Gigante set that up to make sure Tieri went to prison?
