Not according to FBI files. Jo Jo was always Mike's main guy. Jo Jo was high up but not considered a boss back in the 1960's. Jo Jo's star was on the rise from the early 70's, or shall I say that he was a force to be reckoned with from the 1970's. West Virginia put him on the map. Obviously when Michael made the trip to Appalachian with John that made him John's guy and that would be the case in the 60s. However I believe that Michael, Gabe and Jo Jo were considered John's ruling panel some time there after. After Michael became boss Jo Jo was his under boss. Yes most charts have them 3 as a ruling panel from 1978 to 1980. With one dying and one in prison that left Genovese as acting boss till 1984.Then obviously he became official boss when LaRocca died. I've seen Genovese listed as underboss and others have him listed as consigliere, with JoJo as Underboss from the early 70s time period. Who/What are the sources that list Michael as Consigliere? Just curious, I've never seen it. I believe The fbi or the Crime commission listed genovese as the consigliere in the early 80’s

JCB and I recently had a conversation regarding John and his successor. Most agree that JoJo would have been John's choice. Besides Joe being a "man of the people", similar to John, he was also John's biggest earner at the time because of the casinos in W,VA. There was no question that Michael always aspired to be Boss. Had Jo Jo been named then we think that could have gotten very ugly Yes. It looks like Jo Jo 1979 conviction prevented him from being boss. Genovese was the last ruling panel member left and was named acting boss.

After the Cleveland chart(s) are concluded, whenever that is, we can resume a Pittsburgh project if you so feel inspired, I'd do a 70's or 80's one since that seems to be the most concrete era and could procure most of the photos. As for all things pre 1930 Pittsburgh, per usual I don't feel comfortable discussing it but I will admit that I'm buried in the 1920's and had to take a break, if only for my own sanity's sake.
