There was the 1977 murder of Eli Zeccardi, underboss of the Genovese. Funzi Tieri blamed this on the Irish gangster Mickey Spillane, who was the boss in Hell's Kitchen before Jimmy Coonan and the Westies took over. But I read it's generally thought that Tieri himself ordered Zeccardi killed, and blamed Spillane to avoid problems, and was believed because Spillane had a "habit" already to kidnap mafiosi for ransom, although nobody got killed. By the way, anyone knows who exactly from the Cosa Nostra did Spillane kidnap? Even if Zeccardi's death most likely was attributed to him by Tieri who was himself responsible, but which kidnappings (even non-fatal) did he really order against the Cosa Nostra?
