I was surprised to read in some of those articles he's actually up for parole in a few years. Thought that was abolished by the time he was sentenced maybe those articles are wrong? Either way they would never grant him parole

To Pogo: Thank you for the assessment. Didn't think it would amount to much, but was surprised to see it in Stasi's Sunday column.

Carmine "Periscope" Persico has a nice ring to it

Doubtful. Periscope is appealing but it doesn't look like is amounting to anything. Even if by some chance he gets his Commission case conviction overturned he still has Colombo Hierarchy case conviction. I believe Funari appealed and it was turned down. He was released anyway on a compassionate release (he was 90 and in poor health). Salerno is of course long dead.

Also the top post should read Lucchese Consiglieri in 1979 for Funari.

To Pogo: I knew someone would have the answer! Thank you, Pogo. Now, final question: would any of that 'misinformation' be legitimate cause for a re-trial and possible release of Persico?

In the case of Persico it is in reference to him not being the Boss in 1979 when the Galante hit was was decided upon. The other two references are Tony Salerno not being Boss of the Genovese family and Chris Funari not being the Lucchese in 1979. All moot points since they all took part in the same conspiracy and crimes.

Carmine Persico and the Commission Trial

To Everyone: In Linda Stasi's column today in the New York Daily News, one of her columns discusses the possibility of the famous "Commission Trial" being tainted with misinformation, in the form of evidence not presented by the Government. An only slightly interesting article overall, but what caught my attention was 2 statements brought up in the article: 1) "recently, uncovered FBI reports, which assert that Persico was not, in fact, the head of the Colombo Family" and 2) "the government failing to disclose evidence proving Persico and two other family heads were never part of the 'commission.'

Just wanted to bring these two statements to the Forum to get the opinions of those more knowledgeable than myself.
