Curious if him going to the Genovese family was a result of the Bonanno war and Zicarelli's temporary responsibilities with the administration, or if it just coincidentally matched up to that period.
According to a NJ State Police Report, DiGilio switched to the Genovese Family in 1969 when he became dissatisfied with Zicarelli. The report doesn´t go deeper than that, so I don´t know any details.

He lived in Brooklyn and he and his crew members operated out of the Gravesend section. It's believed that after the death of Frank “Casina” Cucola in 1975, Lombardi inherited the old Ray DeCarlo crew. This crew has always had members based in Brooklyn and New Jersey.
I found this bit on the internet no idea if it's true or not.
Sally Dogs Lombardi took over the crew from his uncle Tommy Lombardi in late 1980s. It was Tommy Lombardi who was made captain of Funzi Tieris old crew (which had merged with Gyp DeCarlo´s) in the early 1970s. Sally was originally a Bensonhurst/Bath Beach/Gravesend guy but later lived in Staten Island, NY.
Some indications points at DiGiglio was made into this crew (Tommy Lombardi´s crew). He was originally a Brooklyn guy (or had lived in Brooklyn) before moving to NJ. Another NJ based guy was made at the same time a0s DiGiglio but haven´t been able to track down who that guy is. Possibly it´s Pepe laScala or Ninny Bruschi.
HK, who was originaly a brooklyn guy? DiGiglio? Do you have some posible info on how big was that crew, Tommy Lombardi's?
Thanks HK once again.
DiGiglio yes. He lived in Brooklyn before moving to NJ. Tommy Lombardi´s crew was pretty huge, I´d say 20 or possibly 25 men strong. (Made guys.) He was close to Funzi Tieri. It´s possible Tieri beefed up Lombardi´s crew after the books were opened in the 1970s and assaigned soldiers from different crews to be under him. If there was a rivelry between Tieri on one side and the 116th Street crew/Greenwich Village crew on the other side (and there are indications there was), having a huge crew under Lombardi could have been a way to help him maintain his position. But in the end, as we know, it didn´t help.
Wow, so thats a wide mistake that the Genovese had a little presence in South Brooklyn? By the looks of things they were just behind the Gambinos and Colombos. As I look at it they had like 3 or 4 crews just in Bklyn.
What do you mean it didnt help, I thougt Tieri was the Boss/acting boss/figure head until he died or was arrested?
