Long Island nightclub owner struggling to open cabaret files $2.5M suit against man who said he has mob ties
The owner of a bawdy nightclub on Long Island, who has been fighting fierce community opposition to open a second Las Vegas-style cabaret, is suing a local gadfly for falsely accusing him of having ties to organized crime.
Billy Dean has sunk hundreds of thousands of dollars into renovating a site he purchased for $950,000 in late 2009, with the hope of opening a cabaret featuring "stage entertainment, live music and dancers."
Dean's $2.5 million defamation suit against Kevin Milano accuses the Wantagh resident of coordinating a "campaign" to prevent the cabaret from opening.
Milano allegedly launched a petition "to stop the strip club," posted a sign that stated "No whorehouse here," and sent emails to county officials claiming that Dean "seem(s) to have connections to organized crime figures," according to the suit filed in Suffolk County Supreme Court.
