If you go on vacation to any major city over there, theyre quite easy to come across.

Try and open some kinda business out there..guaranteed to get a taxation visit within a few days.

At one point i read the yamagachi gumi had like 50k members. They also usually are very out in the open about there yakuza affiliations.

Idk if lcn had any kind of asian oc connects at all really... The triads were in a way the ones that bipassed them in heroin as well as the mexicans

Except for Hawaii, I don't think there is much Yakuza presence or activity. I've read some investments of Yakuza money in the US but that's about it.

In Japan it's still there but is smaller, more fractured, and doesn't have the clout in Japanese society it once did.

Yakuza still around for sure. I think in Japan they're outsourcing some of the street crimes to Chinese and Koreans though. Yakuza into corporate and white-collar crime big time.

Check out the book "Yakuza: The Explosive Account of Japan's Criminal Underworld" by David Kaplan. It's a bit dated, but still very good history/analysis of Yakuza.

Jeremy you should also check out the book "McMafia" by Misha Glenny. There's a chapter on the Yakuza in there. Book also includes chapters on the Russians, Israelis, Colombians, and Nigerians among others. I use McMafia in my class on TNC.

Good question about Yakuza and CN though. I'm not sure. Yakuza typically active in American cities where you don't see large Italian American population. Maybe they bumped into each other in LA.
