Dear Johnny_Scootch:

Respectfully, I agree with your comment, and they are, of course, fonts of information; however, I get the impression she would like to meet with individuals still currently on the street.

I could be wrong, of course.

Regards and respects,
BeatiPaoli

There are plenty of informers who might be willing to talk with you. DiLeonardo, Calandra and their like.

New LCN research project + short visit to NYC

Hi fellow mob watchers hope everyone is fine.

I am starting to work on a new book project provisionally titled "Re-cognising La Cosa Nostra: the enduring saga of the Italian-American mafia in New York"which should come out in 2026. Albeit academic in scope - which means that I wish to analyse and not report facts - I am putting together various data sources, including judicial files of course, but also interviews. The "usual" interviews and data access come from law enforcement but they are not always the most interesting ones - which at times are just the most spontaneous ones with "non-experts" - anonymous, confidential and of course very informal.

I am going to NYC for a couple of weeks end of June-early July and so my questions to this community:

1) is there anyone from the community or generally in NYC which you think might be interested to talk to me about the "status" and the "identity" of LCN in the city? I am thinking someone that comes from certain neighbourhoods, or had someone close to one of the families or the port etc. Even someone who might have been involved with the families and doesn't mind talking about it (as said, everything confidential and will be kept secret), or overall anyone who has any insight and that wouldn't mind to share them I am interested!

2) Is there any place you'd recommend I visit which would give me the "right feel" of whatever LCN is/has become in the city?

3) Is there anyone also from law enforcement which you might know and recommend me to talk to who might have had an insight on this or might still have an insight?

Thanks so much and of course I will acknowledge the contribution of the community and the forum in the work!

Thanks!

Anna
