Roselli eventually took the lead in the case. He told NBC10 that law enforcement received an interesting tip early on.
“A murder-for-hire on behalf of the LCN,” Roselli said.
LCN stands for La Cosa Nostra, or the Italian Mafia out of New York.
“There was enough meat on that allegation for us to get proactively involved,” Roselli said.
While investigators weren’t able to move that lead any further, it was not discarded. Roselli said a murder-for-hire scheme is still a possibility. Despite this, he’s still unsure of who would want to have them killed under that scenario.
Anyone from South Jersey or PA know about this case. Two people 20 years got together on a random night that wasn't planned. They were never seen again. The vehicle was never found either. The random meet up makes it challenging to believe this was a murder for hire plot. From what I read/watched the LCN part comes from Richard owing some money to LCN backed gambling operation.
This would essentially mean that Danielle was collateral. You would think that would be ruled out by LCN, except Philly has 3 cases a woman being collateral in LCN cases (believe two survived), you have the Curro girl, the girl in the restaurant from the Bruno era and you have the girl that was with Guerino Marconi. So its not totally unheard of. I think its very unlikely its LCN related but thought it may be worth sharing. My best guess is the theory they went into a body of water somehow in an accident and are still sitting in those seats of that vehicle. The whole murder for hire obviously doesn't really happen in LCN so it is a little shocking an FBI agent chose those words. Either way interesting case for anyone interested in true crime stuff. Very little evidence after all these years.
I’m from South Jersey and very familiar (though I was deployed in Afghanistan when this happened). For years they had a billboard up (on the blue route or 95). Not LCN related. I think there is a strong probability it was her husband. He had made threatening calls to Richard. He was supposedly at a family birthday party at the time of the murder, but I don’t think it matters. It was a hit. It’s almost impossible to make 2 bodies and a car disappear if you don’t know what you’re doing.
From the LCN aspect, I just don’t see it. Even though the Philly mob was still committing violence in the early 2000’s, it seems odd this has never been mentioned by the FBI as an unsolved mob hit.
