To Everyone: I could be wrong, but I believe different American Families had different saints they used during the initiation ceremonies.

Usually it was Santa Maria Annunziata, Mary the mother of Jesus. Some sources also say St. Francis of Assisi, but that may have been a substitute when no image of Mary could be found.
