Snakes wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 4:19 pm Yeah, that's what I did. I'm too nervous about this Internet Archive lawsuit with publishing companies. It's about the online books that they used to have more of.
Oh shit I completely forgot about that lawsuit - the situation is a lot worse that I implied in my posts. Guys that link I posted might not be long for this world, better save the good stuff while you still can. It costs money to run a huge archive of dead sites like that and there's a good chance they're about lose hundreds of millions in copyright infringement penalties. Also might want to look up any old dead sites besides the one I posted while you still can.

Here's the story for anyone not familliar: https://www.wired.com/story/internet-ar ... se-appeal/

I just hope someone is making a Wayback Machine for the Wayback Machine.
What's worse is Google doesn't have "cached" websites anymore, either. That's not as big a deal because those didn't last forever, but it's just one more archival route for websites.

Patrickgold wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 11:38 am Excellent website!! Thanks for link.
Glad you guys like it. 8-)

I figured it would be on the Wayback Machine because it's a federal government site and therefore the opposite of obscure (generally the less obscure something is the more likely it gets stashed on the Wayback Machine, but it's usually a good idea to check it for any site that gets nuked but you want to see as I've found some super obscure sites from like 15~20 years ago on it too).

Edit to add that I'm surprised the PDF exhibits got archived as that sort of media usually doesn't (at least from what I've seen). Usually shows up as dead links within the Wayback Machine. Might want to download the really good stuff just to be safe.

Nothing hides from me. If it's on the internet, I am going to find it.

Click on the little PDF symbols under the "Links" column on the right to bring up the exhibits. Happy reading, fellas.
Excellent website!! Thanks for link. I see they have surveillance photos from the Russian American Club on Mannheim. Does anyone have any knowledge if there are any transcripts of any of the outfit guys talking about it? Curious which Russian group was running that place. I remember it got busted for prostitution. It was the cherry club before it became Russian American club. They said it was a members only club but they let anyone in there.
I think they had some of the Marcellos machines in it, but I'll have to go back and check some files to see if anything more specific was mentioned about it.

Ah OK.

Anyway, for those that haven't seen it, there's lots of neat stuff on that Internet Archive link of exhibits. If you guys don't have them you might wanna download them as I've seen stuff randomly disappear from the Wayback Machine before.

I think he's seen those and was asking about the ones that weren't on there (they most assuredly had more than what the DOJ posted).
Oh OK my bad, thought he meant the dead justice.gov link he posted.

Coloboy wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2024 8:16 am Question for those of you with experience in combing through FBI files.....

During family secrets some videos were released, some of which can still be found, of Jimmy Marcello speaking with his brother in jail, talking about among many things, the legalization of gambling in Illinois, as well as his take on what was happening on the street with Sarno at the time (2000 or 2001). There were also recordings of Calabrese Sr. in jail with Twan Doyle and Frank Jr.

One has to imagine the FBI has dozens of hours of similar recordings. At what point, if ever, does something like that become publicly available? It would be fascinating to listen to more of the Marcello recordings in particular. This was an interesting time where he may or may not have been running the outfit from jail, or at least preparing to.
The original Family Secrets recordings along with all court exhibits were all released - every transcript, photo, etc. However, they disappeared from the web unfortunately - I think its largely a matter of their website not archiving previously released materials. This outlet used to archive them but no longer - https://www.thechicagosyndicate.com/?m=0

You would have to request them. They are technically part of a file, but they normally don't release the actual recordings themselves. They may have transcripts as part of a sub-file of the "parent" (master) file, but I think you have to specifically request them. Who knows if they'd actually release them or find them.
