Scalise seemed pretty comfortable around Merlino, but this guy was also a "technical advisor" for a film, so it's not surprising that he was a little more talkative than Bellavia. It wouldn't surprise me if Scalise had some media contacts from that time that he used to connect with Merlino but that's total speculation on my part. Bellavia did have a more dangerous aura about him that came out when he was talking about his case. Like, "I wouldn't want to owe this guy money 40 years ago" vibe.
Scalise is very articulate and you can tell he has a high IQ. I have been told that Alex Dana made the introduction between Merlino and Scalise and Bellavia. Scalise and Bellavia obviously know Dana from Taylor street. Merlino had previously talked about having Dana on his show. They know each other from the South Florida scene. Dana recently opened a Rosebud down there and I think he even filmed an episode there. I have not watched this new episode yet, but I did think when Merlino started this podcast that Bellavia would be a perfect person to interview bc of how he got really screwed by the Feds with all the time he got despite not being convicted of the murder. Merlino likes talking about how the Feds are cheats and liars.

I'm watching the second half now. Scalise can kind of ramble, but as I mentioned earlier, he's pretty well-spoken. Looks pretty good for 87. He obviously doesn't show his hand on camera. Even in his mid-80s, Bellavia sounds scary, especially when he gets pissed talking about his case.

Yes. I just sucked it up and bought it. I can always watch the other vids he has on there, too.

Snakes wrote: Thu Apr 10, 2025 3:38 pm Yeah, the dart story was funny. They stole a dart gun from the zoo, ostensibly to use in crimes. They tested it on "hobos" but all it did was sent them running down the street with the dart stuck in them so they'd have to chase them down to get it back lol
I really think when Scalise said 'we are the last of the 42s' he's giving a nod to being the last of the 'Outfit' - or at least what it was - that's my view. He is really well-spoken and his remarks on Esposito and Capone were even interesting - bc you know some of this stuff is what he's heard from real guys, not read online like us.
He sounds like he knows the history, but it seems like a Wikipedia-level of history, if you know what I mean. Like how every Outfit guy in the Giancana-era was a 42

This fucking episode is really great for anyone really into Chicago. Seeing Chicago and Philly guys together sharing stories - we've all wondered about those east coast connections for so long and you wonder how they even interacted behind the scenes here or what actually happened to get these guys together. Jonny the Red and guys like that they talk about in the old Varelli Crew. Bellavia breaking into the Brookfield zoo to get tranquilizer darts. Madone!!!

Great notes Snakes thank you - I'm listening now as well. Sorry I'm gonna pay the money to hear these two guys talk together. A few of the last of the real Outfit in my view.

Why do you roll your eyes about Scalise talking about the 42s? He was in that neighborhood and just as harsh as those guys from my view given his record - I would assume the 42s continued through the 50s/60s...

I'll say that Scalise sounds pretty well-spoken, at least considering his reputation.

I'm going to leave out some of the anecdotes, which are interesting, but are a pain to take notes on and less important in the greater context of the Outfit. The audio also made it hard to hear at times:

-Bellavia and Scalise have been friends since 12 or 13

-Scalise does most of the talking. Briefly discusses the 42 Gang and how Giancana (allegedly) killed three guys as a kid. Scalise describes himself as "the last of the 42 gang" which is

-Stole hubcaps, tires, and cars as teenagers. Scalise said their mentor was John Varelli (LCN member)

-Bellavia described Varelli as "dangerous" but also liked to play practical jokes

-Bellavia mentions that Solly D was convicted of murder, but not charged with murder. I think he's leaving some things out, because I don't think Solly D was convicted of murder, only conspiracy to murder.

-Bellavia talks about serving in prison with Tony Ducks Corallo. There is a photo of them together and another photo with Ducks, Bellavia, and who looks like Solly D and maybe Rocky Infelise but it's hard to tell. There is another guy (far left) who I can't make out.

Not a ton, but some interesting stuff.

I'll do more in a bit.

This seems to have been taken down by whoever had it up.

Maybe it really was his and he got reprimanded?
Doesn't surprise me. He was posting selfies of himself half naked in tanning bed booths.
