If Dublino was backed by Melrose Park, it makes sense that he would feel OK telling Sarno to fuck off in 2002.

You have to wonder if a guy like this is still active today and fell in line with the Cicero/Cautadella crew that runs that part of the city now
casey szflarski (daughter is married to frank carusos jr./wife is the daughter of shorty lamantia) had machines in the location where sarno ordered dublino to stay away from. he was the owner of amusments inc. in berwyn and took over the stops from m&m amusements in berwyn from james and mickey marcello after family secrets.

a bar owner from lyons testifed he had machines from szaflarski in his business for years, but then switched to dublino for a better deal. if dublino was the driver of zizzo, its possible they beefed over routes.
There certainly seemed to be a lot of tension about the video poker thing at that time. Common sense tells us it must’ve been quite lucrative.

I had a personal social family connection to the Szaflarski deal. He was a very blatant front for the Carusos/26th St. The Polack took the fall and the Italians didn’t get touched.
It came out in that investigation that he mentioned Toots by name on a phone call with Sarno and was pretty severely reprimanded.
I believe it.

Granted this was 2010-11, but anyone who doesn’t Understand how the outfit could possibly exist in this century needs to spend a weekend in Bridgeport around some of those families(Carusos/Szaflarskis/LaMantias/LaPietras, etc). It’s insanely insular and tight knit. There is more than enough there to facilitate a mob crew . Same with the Elmwood Park/Melrose Park area. I can’t speak to the grand Avenue or Cicero areas, but I’ve seen that culture with my own eyes in those other two spots. It’s small, but it’s still alive.

according to a list found on the body of tony chiaramonti after he was gunned down in lyons in 2001, m&m amusement served 44 clients in the west suburbs. one client said in court filings that he received between $150-400 a week from his machines.

Snakes I've been told by a source that he thinks Frank Ciangi is someone who was made at some point in the 1990s and may have inherited a lot of the Cicero Crew's rackets. He was a previous doorman at a strip club in Cicero called Spot Lounge in the 70s - by the 1990s working for Monteleone, he was living in a mansion in Burr Ridge, IL. My source is curious if Frank is still alive - any ideas?
He's been dead for almost 30 years and I do not think he was ever made.

Zizzo disappearing certainly would have made me fall in line. That lupara bianca shit is always horrifying.

At that time, Jimmy Marcello was running the outfit, and I have to wonder if the confidence in which Dublino basically told Sarno to go fuck himself, came from knowing that he was backed by Jimmy Marcello /melrose park
I don't think Chicago is the type of city where anyone just independently moves into video gambling machines - and being Italian from Berwyn, I think its too far-fetched to assume Dublino wasn't connected somewhere. I've got excellent Chicago sources who told me Dublino's brother (Pasquale Dublino) is a very violent individual who is well-known.
sarno and dublino were partners in an atm business prior the incident. his other brother carmine worked for tony chiaramonte in the 80s.

Interesting first hand recap of the Sarno trial. Not a ton of new info but some good nuggets in there and stuff you wouldn’t have read in the papers.

Nothing tying Dublino to Melrose Park but it’s a good listen.

Coloboy wrote: Thu Sep 26, 2024 10:56 am It’s interesting….. Dublino was quoted as telling Sarno…”I don’t work for you fatass.” And Sarno was paraphrased as telling Dublino to stop doing any video poker business south of 47th st (or close to that)

That certainly sounds like a conversation/argument between members of two different outfit crews, not Mike Sarno and just some random video poker guy arguing.
I would wager that the Zizzo thing is/was a separate investigation. They had enough without it to put Sarno away for 25 years, but I'm almost certain there is still separate and ongoing digging into Sarno's potential involvement in his disappearance. Makes me wonder if that ever sees the light of day if they'd call Dublino back as a witness.
