And for some reason people still want to be a part of it. I'll give you a case in point: in 2021 I was working on the mix master bridge in Connecticut. This is a huge job. Probably biggest in my state currently going. This is according to ct.gov ( "Construction on Mixmaster range from approximately $3 billion for a partial replacement to $7 billion for a full replacement"). So we are talking hundreds of workers everyday. There was a union laborer who was full patched hells angels. He died in a motorcycle accident. Within a week everybody had a 99 sticker on the hard hat. Literally everybody! Everybody wanted to be associated with him in some way.
The accident happened before I got there. I asked someone I worked with about the stickers and he explained it to me. We are talking state inspectors, million dollar engineering companies, publicly traded companies. They all had the stickers and all wanted to claim a story of how they knew him. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, what I'm saying is people for some reason still want to be apart of something...
Whether it's illegal or not.

If you worried about yourself NorthBuffalo none of this shit would bother you. I just don't really care about it. Maybe if it had an impact on me directly I would have a different opinion. I look at it this way. If you and I began lifting weights at the same time and you began taking steroids and I didnt then you would be twice my size in a few months. But why would I give a shit? It's not going hurt me. That's the way I see it. I have two biological boys under age of 8 and I worry more about the crime in the community then the crime on the job site. I understand and respect your position. But I view it differently.

1. MM is a good candidate for a helmet and accompanying drool cup- whose only discernable mob related talent is propensity for violence
2. That Cahill shit is for 51K and some dinners! millions of dollars spent by a govt that is on the brink of insolvency.Fucking waste.
3. Spats is an asshole but in this case, I think he should've been absolved a long time ago or. He has done bad shit in his life though he should be free in thsi particular matter.
I agree with #2, especially. "Brand name garbage disposal" and what an ice machine... really that's what the govt is reduced too. More over Cahill, it seems is adamant about protecting his nephew. The govt putting that in there; well theh might as well indicted themselves because when it comes to nepotism our govt is the worst.
These labor scams have big impacts on the rest of us - not to mention a lot of hard working guys who do the right thing. There aren't many left like this Cahill who are senior guys with decades of union involvement still openly meeting with mob guys - they should get stiffer sentences than they do in my view.
I been in a union since I was 18. I'm in my 30s now. My father has been in the same for over 30 years. Pay for journeymen just jncreased this month exceeded the inflation rate. We get great health benefits if you work enough in the quarter and dues are only 35/month. And if a job gets slow you go to the hall and see if they can put you on another one. And if you need to file unemployment the process is streamlined if you are in a union. You do not have to show documentation you been looking for work to maintain your benefits. Never has the mobs way of doing business affected the union members ability to earn a living. There is always side deals going on. Contractors put the employees health benefits in escrow and save it till they have to pay them at the last minute. Cutting deals for non union contractors to join the union happens. The bid rigging is done by the govt. The job goes to a minority owned business (African American, woman whatever), regardless of ability to do the job and pay. At least when the mob was around you had real companies doing real work.
Can you tell me why you think they have big impacts on the rest of us? Right now I disagree, but maybe you have some knowledge to drop on me and prove me wrong. Payoffs exist but I don't know how that trickles down to the workers because after you build a relationship with a contractor you no longer need payoffs and your both working together whether it's legitimate or cooking the books type stuff. Lol
Are you blind? This asshole Cahill pocketed bribes and made his fucking guys work jobs without the common safety standards on most jobs. Nearly $200K in bribes in the short time they investigated him. He's been there decades - the guy owns yachts and summer cottages. He then took bribes to keep his guys away from jobs. Talk to anyone in Local 638 and Plumbers Union Local 200 - this asshole pocketed THEIR money.

And if you think your benefits are too good and you get paid too high - be a patriot and quit
I don't think I said too good. I was implying if there is corruption it's not reflected in the workers pay. You mean like OSHA? Cmon now don't make me laugh. How has the "labor scam" impacted you? Made you work unsafe? That's what your saying? And how are guys doing the right thing impacted? That's more of a thing that bothers you then anything else.
Yeah I just don't get the implication unless your a mob fanboy. If someone uses my labor to enrich themselves, fuck them. Black and White. I've known multiple guys over the years who've been hurt on the job - shit that can be prevented bc someone at the top took a bribe. Someone cut a corner and paid to do it. Construction accidents can impair you FOR LIFE. Try living decades on disability. OSHA can be a headache, but I trust them to keep my guys safe over fucking Fat Angelo
Fat Angelo has nothing to do with your safety. He wants to skim money off the top for himself. He's not shaking down the apprentice or journeymen. It has nothing to do with being a mobfanboy. I saw it pretty openly in my 20s in Hartford and in Stamford. One guy used to come in a limo every Wednesday. Idk who anybody was because I was young and didn't pay attention to it. Anyways, my point is being around it never affected whether I worked 40 hours a week or not. I understand accident can kill you (I got kids) and I think about it. And sometimes these union guys seek it out if they can pay non union wages(your saving thousands a day in man hours so i understand the temptation). If the mob is causing all those issues and you think it's fucked up you can leave. Your not held against your will.
There are worse crimes that a half dozen prosecutors could be working on at once.
I've worked nearly 40 years in my local - I've known guys who couldn't work again because the boss never reported all the near-misses to slow down projects - think we ever got those incentives? You need to ask yourself how guys skim - they don't just take it off the top, they increase their margins by skirting rules, saving costs by not inspecting , no fire protocol, denying overtime, etc. - they are stealing right out of your pocket and putting your safety at risk and just...using you. For what? Why look the other way on that? I don't think the mob is causing all these issues - bc most of these scumbags have been pushed out across the country  Thats thanks to real laborers speaking out - talking back and kicking Fat Angelo's fat fucking sons and nephews out of our union. The limo pulling up to jobsites shit is a relic of the past. It's over - a few still out there clearly, and I enjoy reading about them getting popped like this asshole Cahill.
