This is probably true for foreign targets, but I think that sexual blackmail is the main method they use to bend powerful people to their will domestically. Which would explain the child trafficking networks of Epstein, Craig Spence, Larry King etc.

The biggest problem is finding what to do with these people after the inform. No country wants say an isis or terrorist informant living in their country. Don't forget
Informants get paid if they are on the books. When I was in the military I worked underneath some fbi/cia guys and we had to go our and capture certain ppl, stick them in a prison and they would fingerprint and Iris scan all these guys to see if they had any ties to any American counterpart. We were not the only squad to do this, but believe it or not some of the reasons they flip is not far off from why mobster says he flips. Disillusioned with the radical group you are a part of it is a big reason. Most who claim are these religious fanatics can't read a quoran if their life depended on it so idk wtf they are doing...but that's diff. Story for a different day.

Thank you all so much for always being gracious and accommodating to me
A lot of ex-CIA try to get gigs as analysts with the cable news media if they can. Many go to different think tanks. Some try to form their own strategy or security companies. Often they try to work in the areas where they obtained their degrees.

In doing a brief search I found this article: https://chartio.com/blog/what-the-cia-c ... elligence/

Here's a book about the CIA and business: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/625728.CIA_Inc_

Adam, I agree it's a stretch to compare criminals and foreign nationals- totally different animals.

But selling out your country for an Ivy-league education was new for me. If I'm Russia or China, it puts a target on the backs of any of my citizens whose children attended a Western university that they probably otherwise didn't qualify for under normal circumstances. (Of course, I'm sure this has already occurred to them.)

Cornerboy, I don't have any unique insights or book recommendations. I can only say that the information quoted above comes from Jason Hanson's "Survive Like A Spy." (I haven't read it.)

Interesting, but very apples and oranges. Or apples and pineapples.

Mafiosi typically sell out their associates for money, to stay out of prison, or because they have fallen out of the boss' favour. Of course, there are other reasons, but these are some of the most common.

The spy game is different.

According to a former CIA officer, the most attractive inducement for a foreigner to betray his country was free education at a prestigious American university for his child.
