Was about to say, we will be seeing more and more of this even in the Genovese family as time goes on.

$3k+ per week in vig from a car service driver?? This dude must’ve had something going on on the side because that’s an absurd figure to expect from a guy that drives a car for a living to cover weekly.

This Messina guy literally fucked up every step of the way here. He’s soaking a loan shark customer who can’t afford it but is still doing his damndest to make his payments on time. He brags about his button to this poor bastard. He name drops the freaking boss of the family to him as well. He gets pulled over and asked about this guy by the cops, and then he immediately hops off the phone and calls a captain to tell him about it. Only way they don’t shelve this dude right away is if they think it might make him flip (kinda like with Mikey Scars).
He is lucky because will be only shelved. 20 y ago the Genoveses would whack hom only for have used the name of the boss and UB.

What happens when a guy burrows some huge 6 figure sum, and runs to the feds immediately? Does the government investigate what the guy did with the money?
Anthony Arillotta said it depends on the prosecutor who is overseeing the case. He got to keep most of his money.

It's kind of funny that this cab driver asked Messina for a knockdown loan when he most likely borrowed that money with the intention and purpose of loaning it out at high interest himself. Although it did say the 150K was made up through a bunch of loans over time, and it wasn't 150K one shot - but the fact he was keeping up with the interest payments for the better part of a year, as a cab driver, makes it seem like he had something going on. If that's the case, asking for a knockdown loan would call for a punch in the face

I doubt Balsamo will end up going to trial for real. That's the same thing the lawyers were saying about Vincent Esposito for a long time before he pled

Untouchable certainly isn't true. Balsamo has been busted three times in the last 15 years. As far as genius, by all accounts Bellomo is considered to be very savvy but he's obviously also done time. But I don't think you can base the profile of an entire family on a single guy, whether it be Barney or a guy like Messina. The conventional wisdom, from many sources over a long period of time, is that the Genovese family is smarter and more disciplined relative to the other NY families. But that doesn't mean we don't also see qualitative attrition in their membership too.
I know, I’m talking about the way some people on here go on about them

Balsamo was also caught talking on the phone to fellow captain Nicholas Calisi. I posted the document here. viewtopic.php?f=44&t=9555

"You're with a wiseguy now"

You squeeze someone that much and you guarantee he's going to the Feds. This right here is a prime example of a really dumb "wiseguy".

The Mafia is basically over when old clowns like this are who the west side have to turn to when they add members.
Whether it’s ‘young clowns’ or ‘old clowns’ whenever a made guy does some stupid shit someone always says it’s signaling the downfall of the entire mafia. It’s not.

In the words of the esteemed Lawrence Peter Berra, “it ain’t over til it’s over”

I was thinking the same thing. Haven’t they learned their lesson by now. Pure stupidity.
The same thing happened in the Colombo case which busted the admin
So many conversations took place on the phone…Always surprised at that in the current day
