Second trial was risky, lawsuit admits

Sounds like Viau and Scarfo will probably be offered deals too. Prosecution wants nothing to do with this nut.

@Chin, this article also mentions that with Massari's time served the sentence of 25 years will be knocked down to 19 years, 8 months. So he should be eligible for release by 2030ish.

Unfortunate that we won't get anymore articles on the informant's testimony, but hopefully now that all the defendants have been tried somebody in Canada can write a book about the investigation.

Massari will be eligible for release after 12 1/2 years. I can't remember off the top of my head if he has been detained while awaiting trial and if he gets any extra credit for that.

That's unfortunate. Probably best case scenario for Massari though.

The retrial may start as early as this Monday, February 27, but I'm not sure what preliminary matters will be heard first on Monday.

The retrial is scheduled for this March per the article I just posted a link to in the following thread:

I agree, same thread seems sufficient

It'd be a shame if ultimately they go with recording the informants testimony and cutting inadmissible parts. We'll probably miss out on a lot of what he says.

I don't see a need for a new thread. Same charges, same defendant, same thread. 🤷‍♂️

Between now and when the new trial begins -- prospective jurors will be summoned on November 21 -- we should figure out whether to start a new thread for the new trial.

Jonathan Massari's trial aborts
https://www.lapresse.ca/actualites/just ... avorte.php
Mistrial declared in case involving the murders of Montreal Mafia leaders
https://montrealgazette.com/news/local- ... ia-leaders
• “Massari told me that he had to do these murders to become Salvatore's capo. Massari did not kill Giordano and Sollecito himself. He had Marco Campellone, a neighbor, shot, but he didn't do it himself. Salvatore Scoppa wanted him to kill one absolutely to prove himself, he said: make your bones  , ”added the former hitman.
We'll have to wait and see the exact reason but I wouldn't doubt this is the reason. Couldn't believe they allowed the informant to say Massari had someone else killed in a trial for murder  that's the kind of thing that might taint the jury's opinion.
