If I recall correctly the Feds knocked on John's door and told him there was a contract on his head, they're legally obligated to do so, and told him it was the Westside. So John knew before Manna.

They had to know it came from the west side. Bobby Manna was indicted for conspiring to kill Gotti (wiretaps and all that came out in the papers) in 1989. At that time Gotti was still on the streets.

D’Arco is probably the most damaging witness in that life
Al D'Arco was the best witness against the mob. He got made late in life and would never have left it except when you are dealing with Casso and Amuso - who would order hit on a family member of Fat Petey Chiodo - he had to bail out as he was next on the chopping block.
There’s some speculation that he was paranoid in the Kimberly Hotel but Pennisi has said that he has heard that D’Arco was going to be killed if he didn’t leave that hotel room.Al also says that he phoned Sal Avellino later and both agreed that they would have been killed but Sal is here today as an active member.
Strange how Lastorino kept going into the toilet about 5 times.
