Lot of first generation Caribbean immigrants that run businesses or have city jobs. Single family houses with furnished basements and driveways. It's a nice area. Yeah there are some gangs but those are everywhere and similar to the "farm teams" in the italian neighborhoods those gangs are comprised of kids from good homes who are just impressionable, greedy, and lazy. Same exact shit happens there that happened in all of the renowed "Bath Ave Stories"..except it's just black people. Wow. What a shithole.

What's interesting about Canarsie now though, like I had mentioned the gangs above, is that it's really ground zero for fraud in NYC and pretty much in America as a whole. More fraudsters per capita than anywhere. Fraud is a way of life there...you got kids driving BMs and Audis at 16 pulling down $20K bank fraud scores on a regular basis. It's kind of sick how ingrained in the culture it is. It's no surprise that prosperity gospel Bishop who had the jewlery and rolls royce who just got robbed during service ran his church in Canarsie...he was arrested for fraud about 15 years ago himself.

You could even call it a Caribbean Bensonhurst . Tons of good, full families who own and take care of their homes and a small % of shithead lazy/greedy kids getting into trouble. If it's a shithole because the italians moved out to LI and black people moved in, that's not right. Plus it's a huge area, covers a lot of ground, im sure you have blocks that are much nicer than others. If it matters, South Shore still gets a good amount of white students too.
I generally agree , the east side can be rough but the rest is pretty nice, higher middle income worker class.
From visiting the area, my impression was that it really does vary a lot by block in Canarsie. The area by the Rockaway Pkwy stop I thought was particularly unappealing, though still not on the level of the really bad parts of BK. Farther in towards the water matches newera’s description, apart from the immediate vicinity of the PJs there (which is true of the PJs anywhere in NYC; see Throggs Neck). There are local knuckleheads from the neighborhood, of course, but Canarsie is a pretty small neighborhood that also has the misfortune of being located adjacent to some much rougher areas, IMO, so I wonder how much stupid shit there is local vs spillover (or how much the local idiots are influenced by proximity to the larger knucklehead concentrations in ENY, Brownsville, E Flatbush).

I grew up in Canarsie, we moved the fuck out when 3 black guys hog tied a neighbor while they robbed his house then shot him in front of his family. Canarsie was a good neighborhood once upon a time but it has absolutely gone to the dogs.

South shore has white students!?! Dude I’m laughing over here. When I went to south shore many many years ago I was one of maybe 50 white kids in a school of thousands. That’s like 25 years ago!

You sound like a good salesman but I’ve been there and I’m not buying it. Canarsie is no place for civilized white folk and that’s why we all moved!
when I said good amount I meant maybe 10% lol. Where abouts did you live? Don't have to give the address but was it around flatlands or up further?
Not far from Our Lady of Miracles, right next door to Anthony Grado’s father and across the street from Tuddy Vario and later Rugsy Vario. Eventually I moved into the 90’s and lived on same block as Danny Cutaia.

This kind of thing happens quite a bit or at least more than people realize. The list passing isnt as thorough as some might think. The Bonannos pass a list around it doesn’t mean every single member of all the other families will see it. Inevitably guys get made and members from other borgatas feel like they have a claim on that person which results in a sit down.

from what ive heard and read thats 100 percent true

Where joe spirito Jr made 18 guys with out passing names I'm assuming atleast a dozen would be Bronx guys je came up with. That must have passed the genomes off but they haven't passed names in years even don't even like to introduce there soldiers to other family's like Anthony arillotta said
