Yeah it’s gotten a bit better, all the MS & rest of gangs are laying low after the killings a few years ago. Central Islip is still hot though, more dangerous than brentwood MS & Crips/Bloods clash a lot in Central Islip.
And yeah, I remember I went to a party in mastic I remember seeing used needles on the ground it was crazy. Port Jeff is pretty dangerous too.
I actually spent quite a bit of time in Port Jeff Station several years ago. The closer you get to the LIRR station, the seedier it gets. Lots of druggies and weirdos, drawn like moths to the flame around the train station. I’m from Chicago, so I thought that Long Island was all just wealthy suburbs, but what the fuck did I know. Didn’t realize that there’d be tent encampments of people living outside and shit. The cost of living and taxes are through the roof out there, traffic and the road conditions suck, the trains are always delayed and slow, half the people are completely insane, and there’s tremendous inequality. All that is true in the city too, but LI is its own weird universe. I like the North Fork quite a bit, but unless I had a job all the way out there, that lifestyle would never work.
My favorite LI story is probably the time that I was staying at a place out in Centereach, and I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood (you literally never see anyone walking around out there except for poor immigrant day laborer types). Then I got ran off the road on a quiet side street by some dude driving an actual monster truck, covered in lightning bolt decals and flying two huge Confederate flags. I had to run for it when the guy revved his engine and gunned the truck straight at me. I was like, where the fuck am I???
