Yes it is the same crew. It explains why Gaggi and Demeo were so close to Castellano while he was Boss.

nino's family was very close with paul, that is the only reason paul did not kill nino, he just broke him from captain

Gaggi was definitely close to Castellano, part of the reason why I think he ignored the drug rule in favor of Gaggi/DeMeo over the Eppolito's. But do you think that DeMeo was close to Castellano? I always got the impression from the reads that if it wasn't for Gaggi there would be no DeMeo made in the Gambino's, no matter how much money he brought into the family.

Bronx, you referring to Gaggi not getting killed over the whole DeMeo/car theft ring fiasco? Gaggi was broken down after he was already sentenced, correct?

Another thing I read that I found interesting was how the Ruggiero/Gene Gotti tapes implicated Castellano going to John Gotti to kill DeMeo but either he didn't want to or couldn't because DeMeo had an army of killers behind him. Something about Gotti's 10 to less kills to DeMeo's 38 or so kills--it just indicated that DeMeo was just too dangerous. I also tried to find if DeMeo was recording for the FBI, it seems like he was recording but not necessarily for the FBI, maybe it was for himself? And if he was recording for them, why not take him off the street knowing that the Ruggiero tapes were proof that DeMeo was a goner.

Nino Gaggi's crew, was that crew Castellano's before he was made boss?

James and Jr. Eppolito were maternal uncle and cousin to Louis Eppolito, the detective on Casso's payroll. I believe the elder Eppolito was at one time a capo or a very powerful soldier that somehow fell out of favor. He's the one that went to Castellano and complained about Gaggi and DeMeo dealing drugs, ironic since it's possible that DeMeo's crew basically robbed the younger Eppolito in a drug deal. Castellano ruled in Gaggi's favor and gave the okay to do whatever with the Eppolito's. This is the double homicide that Gaggi got into a shootout with a cop and caught, believe he got shot, DeMeo went the other way and never got arrested.

Pogo The Clown wrote:Here is a great breakdown of the Gaggi and Demeo Crews that JD put together a while back.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Known members under Gambino Captain Anthony Gaggi by the beginning of 1979:

1. Anthony 'Nino' Gaggi (54y)

Soldiers
- Frank Bonino (62y)
- John 'Johnny Pesche' Chiarello (66y)
- Joseph 'Joe Brewster' Delmonico (59y)
- Roy DeMeo (39y)
- Gregory DePalma (47y) (IP)
- James 'Jimmy the Clam' Eppolito (63y) (Murdered 10.1979)
- James Eppolito Jr. (33y) (Murdered 10.1979)
- Frank 'Butch' Guglielmini (54y)
- Joseph Guglielmini (69y)
- Accursio 'Swifty' Marinelli (68y)
- Victor Masotto (70y)
- Peter 'Petey 17' Piacenti (58y)

Associates [most with DeMeo]
- Vito Arena (37y)
- Henry Borelli (31y)
- James Coonan (33y) (Westies)
- Frederick DiNome (39y)
- Paul 'Paulie Pinto' Dordal (33y)
- Joseph 'Dracula' Guglielmo (51y)
- Philip 'Philly Glass' Massi
- Dominick Montiglio (32y) (On Record with Gaggi) (Fled 12.1979)
- Harvey 'Chris' Rosenberg (29y) (Murdered 5.1979)
- Edward 'Fast Eddie' Rendini (30y)
- Frank Santora Jr. (43y) (On Record with Eppolito)
- Anthony Senter (24y)
- Joseph Testa (24y)
- Patrick Testa (22y)
- Ronald 'Bulldog' Turekian (22y)
- Ronald Ustica (35y) (Partner with DeMeo in autotheft operation)
- Herman 'Hymie' Weisberger (59y) (On Record with DeMeo)
- + many others not listed

It's worth noting that several guys previously under Vincent Corrao in the 1970s wound up with Gaggi. There were likely others from that crew. but I limited it only to the ones named specifically.

After DeMeo's murder control of the Westies was given over to Daniel Marino, a Soldier under James Failla (these guys all go back to the original Lombardozzi-Gennaro regime). When Gotti became Boss he made Marino a captain and presumably most of Gaggi's remaining crew was put with him or broken up.

Another possible crew member would be Peter Castellana, but I'm not sure if he was moved at some point. I'd be interested to see if anyone can identify some more made members of this crew.
Is that all the associates there were in that crew? I thought a Gaggi's crew would have about 30-40 associates additional to the 12 soldiers considering how powerful the crew was.

yes .zio

Gravano said he was friends with Roy deMeo so when he was killed Castellano showed him the news report and asked his opinion. The boss only asks for such opinions from friends of the murdered guy. This is a common tactic and there are many examples of it.

I remember the Mobsters episodes on Demeo, when they found him in the truck, he had a chandelier on top of his body...Aka, too much light on him, and he had to go.
