But looking at the full picture, going back to the beginning and Cuba it was millions and millions. Just looking at the Strawman cases and yea it looks like it was more trouble then it was worth.

i think the appeal of the skim was the ease and the consistency, nothing shady that brought near the amount of heat that plenty of other rackets did at the time.

Agreed. Getting that much money for doing, well, nothing apart from being scary is kind of the mobster ideal, yes?

I was thinking the same thing.
Or, if it was, they all should have pulled out of Vegas by the 1970s.
Greed.

Rockman and Lonardo were brother in law's but hated each other.

It was in Lonardo's testimony. He testified that Sinito and Papalardo received money from the skim.
Really? Wow. I wonder why RJP would have gotten skim money? He wasn't very highly ranked at the time.

Papalardo interests me. I've heard a couple people say that he was DiMora's puppetmaster, but I don't know if there's any real evidence for that. It still cracks me up that they lived across the street from one another.

Also, Mike Corbett mentioned a million a week(!) being skimmed from the casinos but that almost certainly has to be an exaggeration.

Can't remember any solid numbers off the top of my head, but I do know that Chicago was getting 25% of the skim from the Vegas casinos. I imagine that Aiuppa got a large chunk of that and Cerone a moderate sized chunk. Lombardo and LaPietra probably also got a cut as go-betweens (Lombardo as the Teamsters liaison and LaPietra as the KC contact) . I imagine that out of the remainder of the monthly skim, at least a portion of it went to Accardo with the rest being distributed among various other Outfit members and associates for any number of reasons.

I've never heard any conversations regarding my Pittsburgh "Friends" receiving any skimmimg proceeds such as Cleveland. However, from parts of conversations I overheard between Jo Jo, Charlie and Michael, I'm sure they were very involved in the Hacienda. I know when Joe came home from Lexington that Wango hired him as a junket tour guide. Guess where these junkets went to? They maybe even owned a piece?

I think certain people made some big money. Guys like Frank Costello, Meyer Lansky, Moe Dalitz, etc. Others less so. But peoples' image of the Vegas mob money seems to come more from the movies than real life. A guy like Lonardo making what would amount to 350k a year today just on his end of the skim is pretty good money if you ask me. But, no, it's not like he was Michael Corleone who made so much money he could write a check to charity for $100 million without blinking. That's media fantasy.

For example in Cleveland it was split between Jack Licavoli, Lonardo, Maishe Rockman, John "Peanuts" Tronolone, Tommy Sinito, Joe Gallo, Russell Papalardo and probably others. According to Lonardo they also used that money to cover expenses like going to NY for LCN business, etc. Really the skim was not worth all the troube it brought the families.

Like I said in the same thread furio started on GBB, other bosses like Raymond Patriarca, Carlos Marcello, and Anthony Giordano also had interests but I'm not sure how much. I don't think any of the California families ever had any involvement.

The figures garnered by illegal FBI wiretaps in the 1960's (later revealed in Life Magazine) showed the amount of money. It was going to key people and we have to account for inflation. For example, $50,000 in 1965 would be somewhere between $350-400k in today's money. The $40-60k received by the Cleveland family in the 1970's and early 1980's would be anywhere from $115-175k today. Lonardo's end - as much as $10,000 a month - would be nearly $30,000 in today's money. Or about $350,000 over a year going to him.
