I used to think Brooklyn wasn't a Genovese stronghold but, if you look at the crews based or active there and the indictments out of that area, the family does have a significant presence there. It's just not their main powerbase like with some of the other families. Now other areas in the Eastern District - Queens, Staten Island, and Long Island - I think you could say that.

Also, I doubt Allie Shades lifespan would have been very long if he actually attempted or succeeded in taking our Gigante. I don't see others in the Genovese family laying down for him like the Gambinos did for Gotti.
So Allie Shades is shelved and his Son is a Capo with the Genovese Clan now ? With all the Time Allie Shades did you would think he would retire to Boca. I know the Genovese didn't have a presence like the Bonannos , Colombos or Gambinos in Brooklyn. But yes they have always had a presence there. May seem like more now because allot of former Italian Brooklyn areas have transformed into more Chinese and Eastern European immigrants. So the Italian Brooklyn areas have shrunken. Staten Island wasn't always a LCN haven. But 60% of queens and Brooklyn have moved there..so they all are there today.

I remember he was charged on that 2005 labor racketeering indictment involving the Genovese family's control of the drywall industry. I think he was just charged as an associate in that case. Now he's a captain? Did he take over his father's crew and where are you getting this info?

Pretty sure Allie Shades was shelved not long after he went to prison in the late 90's. Hasn't been active since, not that he needs to apparently he's loaded. His son Frank Malangone is a captain in Staten Island.

Longo was caught talking about how Alfonse Malangone gave a green light to John Gotti to kill Gigante. But Gaspipe said no to doing this and thats why it didn't happen. He said if Gigante was murdered at that time Malangone would have become boss with the backing of John Gotti.
Your right ! Old age. ! lol How could Malangone be ok on the streets after something like that comes out ?? Obviously he denied it. Or maybe for all we know it was some sneaky plot by Chin !

I was led to believe malangone's kid is running that crew and is pretty much the captain , he is also said to be a big name in the whole genovese family

I found it interesting that Ed Scarpo claims Jimmy Ida wanted to whack out Barney and that the Genovese supposedly recently recruited several Brooklyn guys. If true about the Brooklyn guys I'd say Allie Shades probably had a big part in that as he's been on the street for a while. Something completely separate from the article but ties in is the rumor that Alan Longo has been shelved so I would assume Allie Shades is the captain of that crew again.
