Everything's so convoluted with him and it's all on Carlo.
Like did he have 747s full of drugs coming from.S. America?
Did he try and wage a war vs the cartels... on his own? Lol...
Did he bury the guy alive?
Did Chin really try to poach him?
He confessed to burying the guy alive to a prosecutor during his early debriefing sessions so I'd say that one's true. I don't know about planes filled with drugs, but that buried alive killing was related to a drug smuggling operation and him and Amuso were both arrested for smuggling heroin from Thailand so he at least had considerable involvement in the drug business. Where did he say he tried to wage a war with the cartels??
The buried alive thing was from a drug running operation they had running drugs into, or from, Florida. Pot and coke (since coke was starting to become more popular at the time) - but mostly pot I think. There's info out there that Amuso was involved with some heroin smuggling direct from Thailand but I am not sure how true that is.
The guy Casso buried alive was the son of one of the captains of a drug running boat, who had gotten busted. Casso flew down to Florida to talk to the kid and feel him out about his father, and ended up shooting him and burying him alive. He supposedly did this with somebody else but it's never been put out there who the other person was.
I believe that Casso was courted by all five families, including the Genovese, at one point. Wouldn't be a stretch to say he had good inroads into the Genovese and could have ended up with them. He grew up in a hotbed of activity in Brooklyn, worked at the docs, and was really in the mix when he was a kid doing all sorts of money stuff.
I wonder if Salerno and Facciola were really rats? Casso was getting legit info from those cops at the end of the day. Plus before he killed Salerno he had already had a sitdown with him over the Dump and it was resolved to where Salerno started paying more of it's proceeds to the admin. Casso was on the run at that time and was facing serious charges, so if it was a money/power play, it wouldn't make much sense - it wasn't out there personally to make sure whoever took over Salerno's massive loan book was doing right by him, and he was on borrowed time anyway. It's probably bullshit and had to do with greed, but there is still a chance those guys were cooperating...
