Goodfellas, Casino, and the Sopranos the crown gems with HBO Gotti right behind. Donnie Brasco is solid as far as mostly getting the life right, but oof...rewatching today it's gotten pretty dated. Some seriously cheesy moments in it and bad acting.
I really hate the moment when they explain the "fuggedaboutit" term...
Yeah, i dont mind Depp normally but he was not a good fit for this.
That was one of my problems with the movie. Joe Pistone is a tough, ugly, bald Italian guy. Johnny Depp wasn't right for that role at all.
He sucked as Whitey Bulger, too.
+1 on casting Depp as Pistone, of all people.
Donnie Brasco is a great flick, but doesn’t make it into my top tier. Casino, Goodfellas, Mean Streets, A Bronx Tale, and the Gomorrah movie all do. Also GF 2, with a mention for the extensive use of Sicilianu. And not to forget the Sopranos, for its deft portrayal of the seedy, inglorious modern mob era and its true to life depiction of contemporary (for the time) Ital-American tristate culture.
