His murder led to the Apalachin meeting and we all know what a disaster that turned out to be and the long term ramifications it had for LCN.

It also led to Carlo Gambino becoming a Boss. Gambino of course was one of the main drivers of the Profsci-Gallo War and the Bannana War in the 1960s. Both of those conflicts severally damaged and destabilized the Colombo and Bonanno families which they never really recovered from and which had their own long lasting ramifications.

Gambino was also the driving force in NY keeping their books closed for as long as they did. That of course weakened the families and led to future problems in the types of people who rose to leadership positions in the 1980s like Gotti, Amuso, Casso, Gravano, Massino, etc and the problems they caused.

But keeping the books closed "kept the rats out", which turned out to be true seeing as most of the Mafia informants were made after the books were opened post Gambino's death...

I would argue the 3 Capo murders played even more significant role contributing to the Montreal War than Sciascia's murder.
Can u elaborate??

At first I almost agreed about 3 capos being more significant .... But then I thought about this:

3 capos conflict ended after the hit.... And the conflict really wasn't even that long of a conflict.... Started after Galante got hit.
That was in reference to what B said above about Sciascia's murder contributing to the Montreal War. I disagree with that and was arguing that that 3 capos played a bigger role leading to the Montreal War since that is what got Vito Rizzuto sent to prison.

Without Vito being involved in the 3 Capo murders he wouldn't of been sent to the US and its possible the War wouldn't of even happened or at the very least wouldn't of been as big as it was.
True. Good point.

October 1980, Rocco Violi is shot dead at his kitchen table by a high powered sniper's rifle from an abandoned building nearby solidifying Nicolo Rizzuto's control of the Montreal mafia.

30 years and 3 weeks later, Nicolo Rizzuto has the favor returned as he is shot dead in his home through the window by a high powered snipers rifle. Repercussions are sometimes delayed, but not cancelled.

Giovanni Falcone, Judge executed by Riina, the beast, aptly called. The state came down harder on the mafia than in any time in Italian history from Falcones death.
Wasn't that what made the Catania guy flip.... I forgot his name.... Men Of Dishonor book was about him.

He was the UB of the Catania family before Santapaola basically took over.

I can't think of the guys name at all tho....
Antonino Calderone flipped way before that. Di Matteo was kidnapped in 1993 and Falcone was assassinated in 1992. Calderone flipped in the 1980s because he thought he was gonna be killed in a French prison. He had escaped to France years prior because he thought they were going to kill him. I think there was a mafioso who flipped over a speech made by a relative of either Borsellino or Falcone at one of their funerals. Don’t remember who though.

The Galante hit was a cornerstone of the Commission case. Not only did that case rip the experienced leaders of the NYC mafia off the street and effectively end the Commission, but without the Commission case we likely wouldn't have seen the Colombo War, the havoc unleashed by Casso/Amuso, etc. You could also argue if the Galante hit hadn't happened, neither would the murders that played out in the Bonanno family over the next few years.
Now looking back at it ..... George from Canada was a HUGE burn to the Bonannos....

It not only like you said took Massino down and made him become the first boss to ever flip....

In a way it led the beginning of the whole Canadian war still going on to this day ...

Lol the Bonannos have almost been in some sort of conflict with itself since BEFORE the commission was even started.

Massino started cooperating right after he was convicted in his 2004 trial. It didn't come out that he had flipped until 2005.

I thought Massino flipping was caused by Frank Coppa being hit w more charges and rolling over...
