He doesn't elaborate much these days, but I think I follow his thoughts. U.S. became only Western post-War democracy to see its labor unions lose numbers and political influence to extent it did, in large part due to OC being easy foil for opponents of unions to go after. Mob ties to ILA, Teamsters, LIUNA, etc., all provided free advertisements for anti-union legislation and declining membership.
Wow, blast from the past. Your father was a valued poster years ago on the RD forum.

Yeah, he was. I'm not sure what part, something federal. I recall when Matty the Horse died, salvine said he had been their second biggest target in the 1970s after Frank Tieri.

The Kingpin Act wasn't necessarily for the Mafia but still could be applied to them.

I obviously know about Rico but there any other specific laws one could attribute where created to combat the mob of (any other criminal group)? Anything is appreciated

If we are talking strictly government efforts, in addition to the 1970 the Organized Crime Control Act (RICO was a part of that), which created a legal framework to prosecute organizations as a whole based on a pattern of racketeering, witness protection program, forfeiture of assets, etc; there was also the 1968 the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act, among other things, established rules for obtaining wiretap orders in the U.S.

Something else to consider is the new industry regulations the Giuliani administration made when he became mayor in NYC in the 1990s. It created the Business Integrity Commission to replace the trade waste associations the mob had used to control the waste hauling industry in the city. The BIC also and certain local laws were used to remove mob control of the wholesale food markets.

Probably legalization of Gambling. The government is smart, they made a few things the Mob made a lot of its money from legal so they can make money off of it.
