Honestly they probably cynically calculated that in the current political climate, harping on racial issues is a better play than being tough on organized crime.
My understanding is that mob presence on the waterfront is still pretty entrenched, but there's no central control like there used to be.
It seems the remaining mob activity is pretty much on the New Jersey waterfront, where the majority of the shipping is. That's where you still have Dennis Daggett (son of ILA president/Genovese associate Harold Daggett) over Local 1804-1 in North Bergen, Brandon Garcia (Genovese captain Silvio DeVita's stepson) over Local 1235 in Newark, etc.
Absolutely, second that - this report is clearly political, but the genoveses in the port are still fairly entrenched...there are plenty of court cases about that and the daggett friendship with politicians in NJ is of course very much part of the problem.
Of note is huge Port back ups are slowing down trade all over the US. Port traffic is surging, Port operators are very important keys to the economic system right now . You would have to think the Westside has all kinds of rackets going on right now. Knowing the right people at the port has never been more important.
The WTC is a waste IMO but I do feel that the Westside could get strong down there again without the oversight. These reports have been some of the best info I’ve read. It’s clear the WS still has a legit precense there.
