Those dogs can still hunt!

I took the scene to be a deft way of illustrating how sharply the mob had declined outside of the NYC area (and thus by extension how diminished the sphere of mob influence had become even within its last bastion. Coming in at the end of something, etc.). As with many things on the show, it was a great example of "show, don't tell" storytelling.

Obviously the storylines in The Sopranos often were loosely based on real LCN events, so I've wondered if there was any basis for the DiMaggio crew, or if they just wanted to work in some reference to the NE mob. Either way, great fuckin scene.

I knew he was still alive! What a savage! The stories that guy can tell. I knew the patriarcas supplied some men for the Gallo War, Ray made and then transferred some guys to Genovese family, and that Ray and Vito were close. So it’s not hard to imagine they did some business and hits together.

Never heard that. Definitely for Patriarcas. George is out now. In his 90s and still going strong.

A couple years back a buddy of mine told me that the Genovese family used the McGlaughlin gang/brothers for a couple pieces of work. Any truth to that? Not sure if he meant Springfield wing of Genovese or NY. Would love to hear any thoughts on this. Also would love to start a thread on some Charlestown/Boston Irish related stuff. Topics like Shea, O’Brien, Fidlers, Hogan, WHG since Bulger era, etc. Again would love to hear some thoughts! Thanks all!
