Yeah, not really close. LCN's presence, influence and money flow in Gambino's era were considerably larger.
I hear you but even during the 80s ? when they had the Concrete , Window and Gas rackets in full swing.
The heat was on in the 80s no doubt but I’m not sure the 70s mob made more $ .
I think they might of peaked in the mid 80s when they had all those cartel construction industries on lock down which ended up in them all getting locked up .
I consider the period from the late 30s until the late 70s as the 'golden age'. We know the biggest scams from the 80s because of the suffocating law enforcement pressure and many informants, but that's hardly an indicator they did better than before. Also, by the 80s general attrition was in full force, LCN shrank nationwide, more competition, reduced opportunities, lost the casinos, etc. It's very subjective because we'll never really know. I think the mob peaked in the 50s and it was all downhill from there on.
I agree on the power in the 50s
I personally think they peaked in industry in the mid 80s
Drugs too , the late 70s to late 80s brought in a lot more $ as there were so many more drug consumers post 60s and a lot of wise guys got rich from the pizza connection.
But like you said , splitting hairs lol
