I have an English hard copy that I got from David Critchley years ago. It’s rough (xeroxed and missing several pages) but I really wanted to read that book so it was better than nothing. Not sure if David has a pdf version but it can’t hurt to ask.

I would be very interested to read the english version digitally. I have looked for it for a long time. If anyone has the pdf, please PM me.

Hi all. I would very much like to acquire a translation of Gentile myself. I have a copy in Italian, but I can’t read it - lol. I suppose it wasn’t published in full in the 2020 Informer magazine? If not, is David Critchley the guy to go to? I have his book, but is he a member on this forum? Or is there anyone else I should ask? I would prefer and electronic version to a hard copy.

Thanks all!

As coincidences have it, the Informer is being published this month, and the magazine is doing a deep dive into Nicole Gentile!!!! So, I guess I will hold off translating "Vita di Capomafia" and wait until I read the Informer this month! I am sure none of us will be disappointed.

There's some material in the version you have that's not in Vita, but most of the content matches.

To Johnny_Scootch: You have exactly the same document as I have, and that is exactly as page 45 ends and page 47 begins!!! It is too bad we cannot obtain page 46.

To AntiLiar: Is "Vita di Capomafia" a literal one-to-one correspondence to the document Johnny_Scootch and I have, or do we have to glean content from within the text?

Thank you for your assistance.

I use Google translate. Works great.

Looks like we're in the same boat, unfortunately I am also missing page 46.

The page 45 I have ends like this

Not knowing what else to do I informed VALENTE of my diplomatic mission that I had not succeeded in bringing to an end and moreover of the obstinacy of LONARDO which he should guard against in a very particular fashion, recommending to him likewise that he remain a long way from Cleveland, a city most dangerous for him and others.

And age 47 picks up

had they heard the name of DI GIORGIO than all of their faces turned pale, so great was the dread of the Capo (head) of Los Angeles.

I know what it is. I have my own copy. The pages are missing in the original. You can find the missing content by getting it from the book "Vita di Capomafia."

BeatiPaoli wrote: Sun Sep 27, 2020 2:19 pm To Everyone: I need some assistance if at all possible. A convoluted story. I purchased the Nicola Gentile manuscript from a respected poster on the RD a couple of years ago (maybe more than a couple). I cannot remember his name. He lives/lived in England. I purchased the manuscript without incident, and was very pleased with the transaction. As I have a very busy life (as we all do), I only started reading the manuscript recently. I am pleased with the content, I find Gentile interesting to say the least (I think someone referred to him as the "Forrest Gump" of the early American Mafia, which is so true), and certainly have picked up a lot of "pearls" regarding the subject matter.

Here is my problem: I am missing page 46. I did not lose it, as I kept the manuscript untouched and in the same place since I received it. I am certainly not blaming the respected poster from whom I bought the manuscript; I am sure this was just an oversight during the copying of the manuscript. I am wondering if anyone here has the manuscript, and can somehow post page 46 here so I can copy it, or pm it to me. Failing that, if someone could give me the name of the respect poster who was selling the manuscript and a way I can contact him.

As fate would have it, from reading pages 45 and 47 and assuming context in between, page 46 begins a new "adventure" with Gentile, as he appears to have ended up in Los Angeles or San Francisco, and is attempting to save the life of another member (a friend of his in either Los Angeles or San Francisco) who has been "condemned to death" for some reason I cannot ascertain.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and any assistance you may be able to provide.

Regards,
BeatiPaoli
I bought the manuscript from Dave also and I do remember he warned me there were quite a few of the early pages missing but I was so eager to have it I bought it anyway. I’ll get back to you here later today or early tomorrow hopefully I can help.

I would be interested to buy an English translation if anyone has a copy, even a pdf.
