Literally AND figuratively. The Field Agents are famous for leaving their business cards in mailboxes and on car windshields. And they do it mostly with the associates for two fold reasons: a) To see if they run back and report it to the guy he's with, and b) if you can get a guy young enough, you may just end up with another Greg Scarpa. It's what these guys live for.
they did the kinda the same thing with me. I got a knock on the door very late at night. Not a good knock, I grabbed a the 12 gauge pump and shouted who is it they replied pa state police. We just want to talk. I hide the gun and answered. They told me they were looking for some main people and at that point in time he had 2 undercover buys on me but I would be answering to that later on down the road. He wanted to give me a chance to serve my community and make my mama proud by turning in some people I honestly had never heard of. But after that he would leave little cards, leave voice mails seeing if I was doing alright etc etc. I paid no mind to the douche bag and about a year later I headed off to Sci camp hill. Lol

@ Rocco very very true I believe they gave Ron previte something like 2 million immunity and if I'm not mistaken he is still getting govt kick backs while still being a crook. To me he's prob the most honest snitch. He doesn't care what you think of him and admits he's all about himself. From that bbc documentary it looks like he is still running a small crew and doing small time book making.

@bruno187 the state operates the same way. When I got busted for doing my dirt the cops followed me around for almost a year and half. I knew they had me on something just wasn't sure how serious it was. By keeping someone on the street after you have already nailed them they will hope that you can lead them to other crimes and bigger players before convicting you. It sucks bc I have been out of work since feb bc the gas and oil industry plummeted and I attempted to go to a welding program here in pittsburgh. Unfortunately since they waited almost 2 years to convict me I missed the cut off by 2 months. To go back to like a technical school where underagers also attend during the school year your felony has to be 10 years old with no further trouble. I missed that by 2 months. Luckily I got in with a construction and flooring company making some what decent money until the rigs pick back up.

@eb <b> fuck our govt and fuck Obama mother fucker rallied and got unions to back him then fucks the working man in the ass!!! Look up about what he did to the keystone pipeline project. Would have created 100,000s of new jobs and the cock sucker put and end to it.

They don't have to spend money....they wait for guys to fuck up and offer them get out of jail free (or nearly free) cards. The way the FBI builds cases today is to keep on the street handing out cards and when someone gets jammed up they make a phone call.
Rocco is right that it is rare for a Donnie Brasco or a Jack Falcone to go out there, but it's because it takes too much time and money. Why should the government spend that kind of money when it's only a matter of time till some mamaluk screws up and comes running looking to make a deal? On the other hand, you get what you pay for, as everybody saw with the Papa Smurf case.

The only way the feds can infiltrate OC is with informants. There really is no other way other then go under cover like Donnie Brasco etc. And there aren't to many Donnie Brascos out there. With that said the feds simply offer money and other things that LCN can not offer a possible dependent in a case. They spend millions to gain informants. They spent about million on an informant to get Ronnie Lorenzo a low level guy just in the hopes that Ronnie would flip and set up stings for them targeting LCN member across the country. He didn't flip they hammered at sentencing and still worked on trying to get him to flip while he did time..making his stay in prison very uncomfortable during his whole sentence. The feds spare no expense at trying to buy informants.

Greg didn't help. But that scumbag Oil Can Harry is the guy who ran to the Feds and wired himself up for sound. And part of his deal is he STILL gets dividends from his strip joints while in witness protection. THAT'S your government for you.

I was going to post that at GBB. But decided better. The Feds had. Such a hard on for him so much that to this day HF gets a cut from both. And one of them is a whore house that people have known about for over a decade. The police up there don't give a fuck. It's a different world in CT.

A lot of guys go in and all they do is work out and play handball. I've seen guys go in flabby and come out in the best shape of their lives.

What about the Gemini Twins? Didn't one of them have a jail band?

Then there's Orena, he looked good. But didn't he get religious?

Then of course like it was said, Merlino reversed time in jail lol.
I think it's safe to call them the exception, not the rule.

I think a fair analogy is booze. Eight out of ten drunks age terribly. Then there are one or two guys that the booze actually preserves. And let me be clear because I'm a regular drinker myself, and I know we have our share of imbibers here. When I say eight out of ten drunks, I'm talking about guys who drink 24/7, bathe once a week (if that), and have four yellow teeth in their mouths.

I'm certainly not talking about the guy who stops at the local gin mill for a few pops after work.
