I hate to see it go, it was also in a lot of movies as backdrop. In Mean Streets, the scene where DeNiro and Keitel are coming home late at night after being outs and fighting with garbage can covers, that was filmed on that block and I believe Jovino's was shown.

It stood out being a gun shop in New York City, a rare site.
It catered almost exclusively to NYPD and other uniformed clientele, from what I've read.
Yes I think it did, I assume they sold to licensed holder too, but I am not sure.

No offense guy. But the person who said that to you was pulling your leg. Its total bullshit. Especially if its the 1980s. No wiseguys controlled the LES then. Theres the Village. Then there's LES. It's "downtown" and "uptown." All the junk And the coke in ANY L.E.S. social club came by the cali cartel. They were the MAIN suppliers to nyc in the 80s. TG Graziani would have gotten his head chopped off trying to wholesale down there. Even the beck brothers steered clear. Being "made" dont mean shit to the drug culture. Biggest guy down there was julio bofill. He was not buying from tg or any mafiosi.

True, same for Harlem and The Bronx, or anywhere else. It would be like the Hispanic or Black gangs going to Little Italy in the 1930's and trying to take over from the Italians. Same for Joe Piney and Jack Giordano going to eat in places in those areas, and that leading to "They run the area" stories from the FBI and LE. If Joe Amone and a few of his guys went east of avenue B at night, they'd get mugged or attacked. It was dangerous even in sections of the area they would drop by.

JeremyTheJew wrote: Sun May 10, 2020 3:16 pm There's also two different LES.

there's alphabet city which is also called the east village where Lansky, Luciano etc grew up.

And then there's the real LES which is below Houston. Like Allen st (1st Ave below Houston)

At one point alphabet city was a pure heroin neighborhood.

And then the les like the Bowery was a pure punk rock culture also.

Not much MAFIA.

Puerto Rican mostly and black
There you go. Jeremy nailed it.

Those stupid assholes in that video will all end up dead or in jail within 5 years. They totally ruined that area. Jesus....what a shithole.
Idk bro, with that flag you have as profile picture hmmmm
Are your neighborhood brothas in the video the same guys who told you that Francesco Inzerillo Jr. already took part in a murder & is being groomed by the Zips? Did those guys "rap" the information to you?
I literally laughed out loud when I read this.

Are these dudes really taking over “spots” or are they just selling their smack to Spanish/black guys that already have the spot locked down?

It’s just hard for me to believe a bunch of Italians are doing the DMX, “stop, drop, shut em down, open up shop“ drug turf take over at any point after the 1970s-80’s.
You're absolutely correct. It's selling smack to a spanish guy who in turn sells or consigns it to other spanish/black guys that already have the spots locked down. There is no way in hell Vinny was rolling up to open air drug spots, hopping out of the car with guns, and "taking over" - makes no sense at all. I don't think there was anyone that was in Vinny's blue thunder case who was selling on a street level, or direct to consumer level, at all - it was all middle and upper management. The closest it got to the 'street' level was a kid who was managing some of the spots they used for packaging (they had a spot on Grand Street near Chinatown for that) was a part of the case. I don't know if they ever even got the source of the Heroin. The real source, not the guys getting it from the source. They could and should do a separate book about the Blue Thunder case; it was touched on in DeStefano's VINNY GORGEOUS book but nowhere near in the amount of detail as it could have been (would have doubled the length of the book, lol). I feel like the scale of the network and the money they were making was minimized just to make more room for the trial itself and how it all tied into Vinny's life and career - but there's so much more.

The demographics are so against a Vinny Gorgous or anyone else taking over. They may have dealings with a few higher up guys, but it's tough for them to even get to know them. Those Black and Hispanic gangs and dealers are not going to go all weak when an Italian gangster shows up and moves in on them

Interesting thing: The Communist and Socialist Party in New York was always active down there, going back to the turn of the last century.
Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were from the LES. Super commies. Screenshot_20200518-030059~2.png
I forgot about them, their supporters were form there too, they still have supporters there to this day. Education groups, museums, and all else.

Never heard that one, probably just a rumor. He rarely left Staten Island in the 80's and the Hispanics there had their own thing going. He may have had one spot there, but the majority were not going to have him running anything of theirs.
