While I do think Morello might be onto something that the Endicott Castellammaresi were once their own early Family, the argument is strange as it's based on her insistence that the Pittston Family never existed.

Riccobene and Scafidi didn't know about Pittston and as Ed pointed out recently Tony Lima didn't know of them either but that just means they were secretive and not that closely involved with everyone in Pittsburgh and Philly. Angelo Bruno was close to the Pittston Family and so was John LaRocca (their heritage was adjacent) but Pittston was much more closely involved with NYC and Buffalo

I tried them. They upload very slowly. They're links to Celeste Morello's books and papers.

First post on the forum...”long time lurker”

This won’t load for me for some reason which is disappointing. I’m from Scranton and I’ve been a particular obsession with the Bufalino family for years but you can never find too much information on them, especially current info. Scranton/Wilkes Barre are so far behind other cities it seems like a place LCN could still thrive. Our cops and politicians are still corrupt (hence the kids for cash scandal), our street gangs are disorganized, and everyone around here is addicted to opiates. I’m showing my lack of knowledge on how to post on a forum but I just always wish I knew the current state rather than most info stopping at D’Elia turning.

Hey Guys,

Maxie just finished up an extensive article on the history of the Bufalino Family. We've also put together a full page for the family itself with charts and pics.

The links are below:

Here's a little to whet your appetite:

The Pittston-Scranton Family of LCN, based in Northeastern Pennsylvania, was for many years, a little known but influential entity of the American Mafia.

Better known as the Bufalino Family, they were originally formulated from newly arrived immigrants from the town of Montedoro in Sicily. This group operated primarily in the coal mines section of Pennsylvania.

These early mafiosi were known as Black Hand extortionists who preyed on the community at large, slowly but surely infiltrating and later coming to control much of the coal industry around their territory.

As Prohibition came into existence in 1920, this group was well poised to capitalize on the Volstead Act, building and operating alcohol stills, while knocking out the competition by either violence or domination by extortion until they alone were the top bootleggers in their area…..they made millions!

ENJOY!
