He’s a Bonanno associate who was deported to Italy, snuck into Canada, and was made into the Bonannos over the border. Highly doubt that’s Samperi’s situation though.

Just the agreement. There was never any evidence that the money was paid, or that the Colombo admin actually followed up on anything. They could've definitely taken that payment from the Figli di Santa Rosalia - I believe Angelo Spata was definitely in a position to enforce such a fine.

Great article Gohn! I had always wondered what instigated the stabbing. Samperi certainly looks like a good collector and seemed like a loyal dude.

It seems maybe if you were, Mushs was the way to go about it.
Well, his son JoJo died in prison, so you can't exactly call him a benchmark of success.

But I see what you're saying. Andy Mush's sons never seemed, to me, to fit the stereotype of most Mafia sons, which is arrogant, flashy and incompetent. You know, most people picture spoiled brats like Whitey Stango or, hell, Joe Amato Jr. is a great example. But Mush's sons appear to be pretty capable on their own. JoJo Russo took over his father's rackets and crew, and expanded his already-large loansharking book into the hundreds of thousands of dollars during the late 1980s/early 1990s. He was also a big deal in the Persico faction at such a young age, coordinating hits and taking part in high level Persico faction meetings. I don't think any of the former members from that time have a bad thing to say about JoJo either. Meanwhile you hear about guys like Carmine Sessa, who was always fainting at the Persico faction meetings when he heard bad news.

Then you've got Billy Russo who was his dad's driver in the 1990s, but has also ventured into legitimate businesses and owns property in NY and Florida, including the house where Andy Mush lives now IIRC.

The Colombo loanshark who stabbed Samperi might’ve been a made guy since the perpetrator faced no consequences for the stabbing.
